I played a CD with this optical drive on my ThinkPad W541. Drive bay bezel is a clean fit with the laptop.I've yet to use DVD playback and optical disc burning though.

Assuming this is the actual OEM Lenovo driver, if you're familiar with previous Lenovo Thinkpad ultrabay generations, one of the things you should be aware of is that the eject mechanism is now gone. To insert or remove this drive from you Thinkpad you now have to unscrew the bottom cover, then undo a tiny little screw (hope you don't lose it! yes you have to turn the machine upside down to get the screw out!) then push on the screw hole with your screwdriver to eject the thing. If you were planning on switching between different things in the ultrabay you might want to forget that. As such this is probably the one you shouldn't buy--just get a USB connected external device for less money.

Not hard to install after finding laptop manual online. Had to use one L bracket off old drive. Not obvious how to transfer bezel. Cost was higher than most I buy.
