I used this product 1 time in a knife heat treat forge. The meter seems to work well but I don't have the means to verify its accuracy at high temps. The problem I encountered is the with the insulation on the K-type thermocouple. Used once and the meter read about 1550 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermocouple was at that temp for about 5 minutes. I placed it in the forge such that only the metal part of the tip was in and it was not in the path of the flame. The wire holding the insulation in place disintegrated and the fiberglass (or ?) insulation burned and frayed (see photo). In the photo I show the bag the thermocouple came in which reads a range up to 1832 degrees F. I'm now going to fork out another 30 bucks or so for a ceramic insulated thermocouple. Should have bought the meter and thermocouple separate.

Found the DM6801 to be accurate. It does exactly what it is designed to do, and it will probably last for a long while if we remember to remove the battery when not being used.

This thermometer works perfectly. I needed it to measure molten metal at about 535 degrees F. It is precise and fast. I think it will do a great job for me.
