I've got a full size pickup and trailer and use tie down straps a lot. I've got 3 different sets right now but none of them are retractable. Sure wish I got these sooner.First of all, these are good and sturdy. They're rated to withstand breaking to 1650 pounds. The ratchet mechanism is solid and smooth. They're 10 feet long so they should work in most tie down situations. I keep a couple of my old 15 footers in my truck in case I've got a load that needs more length.Second, both S hooks are coated and have a spring clip to keep the hooks from coming loose. The coating on the hooks and the rubber coating on the spring clip will keep your tie downs from scratching things up.Third, it comes with 4 soft loops. To be honest, I'm not sure what they're officially used for. For me, I can see using them when there isn't a good attachment point and I could take the soft loop and wrap it around something and then attach the S hook to the 2 ends of the loop.Lastly, it comes with a nice storage bag. It's large enough that you don't have to be a packing genius to fit them all in. I hate it when you get storage bags that take 10 minutes to figure out how to squeeze everything in.Overall, I'm very impressed with this tie down kit. It's solidly built, it's at a fair price and you can't go wrong with having that retractable mechanism. Highly recommended.

These are some great ratchet straps and they work perfectly for non-lifting jobs holding down all kinds of things.They're strong and sturdy, thanks to being made of stainless steel primarily, with polyester straps and steel S-shaped (well, 8-shaped?) hooks that include their own hold-closed spring mechanism. The ratcheting mechanism is strong and can hold its own even when you pull as hard as you can against the strap, yet they're easy to open up when you pull the lever to release the tension. They're able to handle large amounts of weight, much larger than I can test reliably, so I haven't been able to break them intentionally. The S-hooks (8-hooks?) are also nice, they're strong and coated in vinyl that prevents them from scratching or getting caught on other equipment. They also come with some tie-down strips. Overall, they're awesome!As far as downsides go, I'd probably only list the lack of instructions, forcing you to experiment with them yourself; and, the ratcheting mechanism being a 'pull open to tighten' style, which I'm not a big fan of versus 'push closed to tighten'. That's a personal preference of mine though and I'm not aware of most ratchets being made that way anyway, so that's not something worth taking a star off the rating for.* I only review things that I personally use myself on a regular and continued basis.* I always give my full, honest, unbiased and unfiltered opinion on everything I review.* I will not hold back or avoid describing any issues I have with a product.* I write exactly what I think about things - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable.* If I get multiple of something it's because I regularly use and need both of them.* And, I will update my review if something breaks, stops working as intended, or otherwise doesn't hold up as expected.

WOrks well. Make sure you've got other tiedowns for the roof of your truck. These are not friendly with the recoil mechanism. They run fine on the trailer though.

I was really surprised at the high quality of this set, and it's nice that there's also a good zip up storage bag to keep them in that's included. I thought it was going to come with extra bungee cords, but the extras are actually straps too, that are sewn into a figure 8, double loop. There are 4 ratchet sets and 4 extra straps in the set. The straps are already assembled and each one is heavy. Nothing about these are lightweight or light duty. They work flawlessly, and really do self retract, like on a tape measure, or a seat belt assembly. If you have ever seen the seat belt assembly in your car, you will know what I mean, because that's exactly what these remind me of. Every part is made well. The only thing I could see ever wearing out might be the strap itself, but we have some over 20 years old, and the straps have frayed, but not weakened, and these seem to be just as good quality straps too, but the mechanisms and hooks on these are much better. Like I said though, these are heavy, so you don't want to let them hang loose down the side of your truck or anything. The hooks have a thin spring plate that keeps the hook end closed and a rubber like coating over the strong metal, like on a carbeaner, that is a pro or con, depending on what your hooking too. But for any of our uses, I can say that these are a very nice improvement over anything else we have, and will now be our " go to" straps. The retractable straps are so much nicer than trying to pull back 10 ft of straps and then have a big pile of loose straps you have to rewind ( or just throw in a bag, like us). As of now, the price is very fair for this quality set with 4 retractable straps, and 4 fig 8 loop straps and the carry bag, and the quality is excellent, I do highly recommend these and if anything ever changes, I will update this review. These seem to work really well - and compared to another brand that I was very disappointed in when the ratchet mechanism simply came apart on the 1st use - these seem to be much heavier duty, and work well. These work smoothly, have good strong retraction spring mechanism, and even came with a really nice carrying bag to protect them from the elements, and dirt and dust. I anticipate they'll be used again, and again!
