I was using pliers to recover automotive seats and decided to invest in this tool. It is a game changer, reduced the re-upholstery time by 75%, well worth the cost.

OK the deal is good but the design is lacking. The magazine holds just one fill strip of hog rings so you can't add more. The spring mechanism which ensures the hog rings move up into position is the design issue. As the fill strip is used, the pressure exerted becomes less until with the last eight or so in the magazine, the plier starts misfiring. There isn't enough pressure to correctly position the hog ring, especially if you are working with a position that gravity doesn't help with. That spring is fully compressed when a full strip of rings is in place, but too slack when getting down the strip. I tried using 'part strips' to reload but this can also cause jams / misfires which wastes the hog rings and becomes frustrating in pre-longed use. It's too bad because I like this tool at the price but the engineering design needs a rethink for it to be a five star product. My project was fixing chicken mesh to a 9 gauge stand wire which did involve some tensioning while clipping. The plier worked well provided the strip magazine issue can be worked around.

It was a good thing I ordered the angled one because I could get it a couple of corners, it works perfectly the way I wanted it to.

I recovered the jackknife couch in our camper, and this kit was a lifesaver. I did do some research of upholstery hardware, and these were very similar to what was already used on the sofa. Total game changer, and I can attest these are extremely sturdy and holding up incredibly beyond just expectations. Having the matching / correct tool to go with the hardware is also very important. That’s another reason I love this set so much.

Replacing the seat covers on two bench seats and a captains chair in our RV required a good quality hog pliers and rings. This was a great set complete with both the tool and the ring clips. These are offered in several styles, straight, curved and deep jaw set. Best to know the style you need prior to purchase. Most upholstery shops use a variety of styles.Note: if you install a ring incorrectly, you will need a good set of long needle-nose pliers or a pointed side cutter to remove the ring. The red rubber grips on the handles have a tendency to slip off. I used double stick masking type tape, (grip tape) and some solvent to slide them back on.

I have hog ring pliers that only hold one ring at a time. I spent a lot of time looking at auto feeds but there are not any out there that really work (reading reviews) so I can't see spending more money for pliers that don't work.I use these for hanging aviary netting for a small area and I attach 1/4" hardware cloth at the bottom so really, listening to my ipod, it doesn't take all that long to re-hang netting every couple of years.I was using copper rings but they've gotten really expensive. I need small rings so I thought I'd try these. They work. Certainly not as well as copper. These are kind of flimsy and don't completely close, its more of a tip to tip kind of thing. But hey, the price was right! I may regret it later but as a single woman farmer, sometimes I have to go with expediencyAs I sit and watch a movie at night I undo the D-rings with needle nose pliers. It only takes a minute or so per clip of rings. All in all, same rings as for the auto feed pliers at a much cheaper price than ones that come already separated. I found that using two clips at a time works on the end support wire, then there isn't so much tension on the clips in the middle of the run of netting. We'll see.The sparrows pretty much leave everything alone once they get the idea they can't get thru so the non fully closing D-ring might not be an issue.
