What an awesome component saver. My knuckle assembly on both left and right sides of my 1999 Durango. The Caliber Sliding Mounting and Support Bolt's were compromised and 1 had stripped out completely. The cost to replace both Knuckles would have been well over $300.00.Thanks to this item I was able to safely repair both sides for a little more than $30.00.

Nice quality tap, heli-coil worked as expected. Amazon should recommend 11/32 or 22/64 high speed drill as that is the size required for the tap to work properly. At the least it should be recommended as an adjacent purchase.

Used for my 01 Dakota brake caliper pins. Worked perfect, I wish I had known about this product sooner. I had just spent $275 for the same issue on the driver side spindle with the same problem, stripped threads. If you are thinking about trying it, by all means go for it. I love these things. Mine was a M9x125.

Package arrived already opened but taped back shut. It didn't include instructions as advertised but a quick google search solved that. Quality product otherwise but no way to tell if some of the heli-coils were removed or if anything was used previously.

This product was a huge life saver! I had two stripped bolt holes on my older durango caliper mount. I thought for sure I would have to replace the entire mechanism to correct the problem, but then ran across a discussion board that mentioned these HeliCoil repair kits. I gave them a try and they worked great! Very easy process, although the directions were vague. I had to go back to the discussion boards to find out the specifics on what other items I would need. For this kit, you also need a 23/64 drill bit. I also used one slightly smaller one and then stepped up to the larger bit. The tap that came with this kit was also of a very good quality. Overall, this is a wonderful item and one that I am totally thankful exists.

This was perfect for repairing the brake caliper mounting holes on my daughter's 1998 Dodge Dakota. These trucks are notorious for the steering knuckle having been made from too soft steel and having these holes strip out when someone torques the caliper guide pins just a little too tightly. It took a bit of effort to get the helicoil insert to thread into the hole once it was drilled out and tapped, but after doing it the first time the 2nd one was a lot easier. Hopefully this is a permanent solution for this problem on her truck.Pros:1. Works great. It does the intended job with relative ease.2. Includes the proper tap. The tap is very sharp and cut the new threads like a dream.3. 12 inserts are included. Those most you should need for a truck is 4 (2 per side), so I'll have plenty left over to fix mine.4. Inserts are stainless steel, so you don't have to worry about them rusting out and causing the same problem later.Cons:1. Price. Really, costing almost $30 seems a bit steep for what you get. The fact that it includes a tap of the proper size helps make it tolerable, though, and it's a lot better than paying $400+ for a new steering knuckle.2. The necessary drill bit it not included. This size requires a 23/64" drill bit which is not a size commonly included in a bit set, so you'll need to buy one of those if you do not already have it. You would think for the almost-$30 price they could have at least included a mediocre quality bit. For less than $7 on Amazon Prime I ordered a set of 6 TG brand cobalt drill bits (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ET0YSCI/) and it was the perfect match for these inserts. If I have to do more of these brake jobs these bits should last me a LONG time.Bottom line: If you experience the same problem that I did with stripped guide pin holes on your Dakota or Durango, get this kit. As an alternative "solution", they do make oversized guide pins which rethread the hole but that will likely be just a temporary fix until it strips out once again and then you'll need to either buy this kit anyway or replace the knuckle. Just do it right the first time and save yourself money and a lot of frustration.

I used this thread repair kit on a 1999 Dodge Durango after repairing/replacing front hubs. The brake calipers had to be removed and when trying to install slide pins that hold the brake caliper in place I cross threaded two of the pins. I did some research and found out this is a common problem and one way to repair the stripped threads was to use the Helicoil thread repair kit. I could not find this thread repair kit locally but found it on Amazon. A 23/64" drill bit is also required and some oil when drilling/tapping new threads. Also, I would get new pins that hold on the caliper. The thread repair kit is easy to use, has great directions and saved the day and probably alot of money on a repair bill.

As expected the quality of the inserts is top-notch. The steel installation tool was new to me as I had previously used a plastic tool from a kit of 8 MM kit purchased at a NAPA store. The steel tool seemded to make getting the insert started more difficult by not allowing it to "give" where the old-style plastic tool allowed the insert to stretch just enough to begin to thread in. 3 of the inserts were ruined in the process and I used the plastic install tool with success. Once started, the new thread inserts worked great and my exhaust system is nice and tight and leak-free at the heads. I did this job with the engine in the car so the extra length of the steel tool would have been nice.
