Your cart is empty.The Fowler 52-520-485-0 dial indicator has an American Gage Design (AGD) Group 2, 2.25" dial face with a continuous dial, a 0-1" measuring range, 0.001" graduations, a revolution counter, and tolerance markers. It is designed to measure surface variations in fractions of an inch. The 0-100 continuous dial with revolution counter has a total measuring range of 0-1" with each revolution equal to 0.1". An adjustable bezel and dial set the zero reading at any location. Tolerance markers allow operators to observe limits at a glance. The carbide ball contact point provides durability and long life. The magnetic back can mount the indicator on most metal surfaces, and a protective coating provides durability and long life. This product has a 1-year warranty offered by Fowler High Precision. Fowler has been around a long time and makes good quality machinist tools. These work well for close tolerance lathe work and horizontal mills as well as horizontal boring mills.

The gauge is good, the magnetic base is cheap crap - the base is not assembled as shown in the ad/pic (that’s disappointing Amazon (false advertising)). They don’t assemble it for you as the base doesn’t fit the gauge. The holes are not concentric and not close - Very frustrating.

The indicator is great. It works as it should. You get your money’s worth in just that. But if you’re like me and already have several of these and REALLY JUST WANTED THE MAGNETIC BASE…then you’re in for a terrible disappointment. The indicator is not fit to the magnetic base. For some reason they give you two entirely different and incompatible units that are relatively useless for the purpose they are sold.If you’re looking for a magnetic base…keep looking. If you don’t mind putting the base on your mill and running a cutter over one side to ‘custom fit’ the base…you’re at the right product.

The new backing plate for the indicator that has the threaded stud that the magnet threads onto is garbage. The 4 holes on the plastic backing plate where they attach to the indicator don't line up at all. I had to drill out and move all the holes and the brass threads on the stud have a big chucnk out of them. I don't recommend and wouldn't buy another one

Excellent quality for the price. Decent indicator, operation is smooth and live. Matches readings with my Starrett and Brown and Sharpe. Magnet is strong.

You get what you pay for. Unless you buy one of these there cheep but surprisingly nice. Way better that INSIZE.

The indicator itself is the bone stock Fowler dial indicator. Nothing wrong with it, very good repeatability and cheap enough if it gets dinged you wont cry. The magnetic back on the other hand is basicly garbage. The indicator come with a nice die cast standard stud back, what they give you to replace it with is some cheap unknown type plastic. It's not even close to flat, the screw holes don't even come close to matching the holes on the indicator. The magnet base is alright, strong magnet, nice sky blue colour : BUT there is a huge flaw. The tapped hole where you would thread in the indicator is tapped off kilter. When put a bolt in it, it looked about a 10 degree angle. Very poor quality control on the accessory’s. I'm keeping the magnet and of course the indicator, but I'll make my own indicator back.

Adequate equipment for a good price. Some have complaints about Fowler, but I've never had a single problem with any of their tools. Of course there's better quality out there (with the price to match it), but these still work great.Just to be safe I keep mine in the box it came in when it's not in use. Take care of your tools and they'll take care of you.
