For my application it worked really well and was able to check my my newly installed front brake discs. I am glad didn't go for a cheap one as there was some people reporting accuracy issues. I'm not sure how many time it'll get used confidering life span of rotors but also have two motorbikes and bicycles so think this investment will eventually pay off (it already did as dealer quoted £1400 for inccorrectly diagnosed drive shaft, abs sensor and front brakes replacement - all costed me less about £400 including front/rear brembo disks, brembo front pads, this gauge, drapper magnetic arm to hold it and a new ABS sensor shipped from Germany).

I am new to the world of precise measurement so my 4 stars does not carry much weight, but this is my second Mitutoyo dial indicator, the other one (2110S-10) is for much finer measurements of one micrometer and is not practical for some automotive measurements. I am happy with it and think its a world class tool and it comes with a calibration certificate allowing for very accurate measuring! I would have given it 5 stars but I just noticed that it does not have bracket built onto the back like the 2110S-10 does so I guess that poses a limitation, but it works fine in a standard holder. Made in Japan stamped on the face, I would recommend to a friend.

The 4046SB is ridiculously large with an over 3.5" dial face. I wanted it for when I needed to inspect something like a fixture at a distance. As long as I have a strong enough mag base it will work great. Our inspection department certified it as having typical excellent Mitutoyo accuracy.

As any other Mitutoyo measuring tools, this is an awesome product. In my opinion we cannot go wrong with this dial indicator.

Mitutoyo is one of the best dial indicator maker. You can't go wrong with this metric dial. The resolution is just right for a minilathe. All you need is a magnetic stand. The dial is easy to read and adjustment is smooth. Made in Japan.
