Just a handy thing to have on your bench

The accuracy is good enough for a home mechanic. Upon arrival the depth bar does not sit flush when fully retracted. There were some burrs, not enough to cut you, that can be felt throughout the caliper. Fortunately, the burrs were not in the areas used for measuring. Also, it does not go back and forth smoothly as it should. Upon further inspection, metal chips were found inside the caliper that may have caused it. This is a precision instrument and should not be an oversight.

Great buy. Excellent value. Not the highest quality workmanship/attention to detail, but works well. Excellent budget/home/hobby caliper.

This thing is junkier than the junk verniers they provide at work. The ones at work are used in a rather harsh environment and typically don’t last long so they buy the industrial supply shop’s super cheap house brand, usually about the 30.00 price range. This thing is so cheap and inaccurate that it makes the work ones look like super high end tools. It’s tight with no sloppy movement. It does grind while moving like there is something stuck in it gears. Is accurate to about the three inch point and then loses measurements beyond that. There is no stop at the end so it just keeps going past the six inch point and seems like it pulls out on gear. Can’t use it at work and not even sure it it will work for wood measuring. Might wind up in the trash. Absolutely do not buy this junk. Instead check the industrial supply places for their cheap house brand. Typically they run about 30.00 or less and are usually not bad quality.

This unit is well made and accurate. Smoothness is a bit less than the best but expect it will improve with use. Tight is better than sloppy. Equal to a number of big name units for a fraction of the price.

Nice calibers for a normal garage tinkerer guy like me. Old ones broke, these seem to work fine and are pretty well built and accurate.

The caliper works like a charm. Very repeatable measurements. You can reset the zero point. This is the caliper of choice. Digital ones always require a battery. These mechanical ones just work.

I am a log time machinist having used calipers for years. Drop even the best caliper and a 2 hour reassembly is needed.I thought getting a "cheap" caliper would work OK for woodworking, and be just as easy to "fix". These are quite good quality of materials and construction. Mititoyo "feel" better when working with metal, but these are as accurate as Mititoyo and better that Starrett
