Each mouthpiece is different, so you have to do some testing and a lot of research. D’Addario does a good job explaining the geometry of their reeds and the difference of each. And they show a diagram of the reed on the package, which is very helpful. I have tried the Reserve and the Reserve Classic. Both are great reads. Because of the way my mouthpiece is shaped, the Reserve reads are better for me. To me is produces a nice dark, clear sound. I would compare these to the regular Vandorens or the Vandoren V12, except with better consistency. Most of the Reserve and the Reserve Classics work straight out of the box. And by most, I mean like 8-9, sometimes even 10 (they come in a fix of 10.) It means you don’t have to waste money on sanding down the reed or throwing the entire reed away.I would also argue that these reeds are good for beginners, just because they produce a really really good sound. Many beginners get frustrated when they don’t sound good, and then they quit as a result. These reeds prevent that from happening. I do recommend a softer reed (2-2.5) for those who are starting out. If you end up squeaking, go up a half size.Reserves should be the go to brand for reeds and reed and mouthpiece related products. I find that D’Addario is the most versatile and most consistent in general. Their reed cases are phenomenal. So are their mouthpieces. The only thing I don’t recommend is their ligature. By a Rovner for that.

Lively warm tone. Always used Van Doren and these are just as good but have a more mellow sound. I play on a 3 so not sure on suitability for beginners but definitely stand up to more advanced playing really well!

10 in box and only 4 worth using :(Someone needs to do better quality control. These are too expensive for only 40% being good quality.

I am an amateur clarinet player! I recently returned back to clarinet play after not touching an instrument for many many years (let's say 35???!). Anyway, I had to relearn a lot of things, and a lot has changed since I last played. One is a proliferation of reed manufacturers on the market. Rather astonishing really!Anyway, these are a nice reed, since back I have tried some Rico and some Vandoren reeds. The Vandorens were the most difficult for me to play, the Rico the easiest, the D'Addario's are in the middle. One thing I really like is that these seem to withstand use better than some other types. There is much to like here. The sample box I was sent included 10 good reeds, no splits in any. And each reed comes in its own case. This is certainly not the only brand to do this, but it is a nice touch. Especially for younger students who are a little tougher on reeds than old-timers like me.As others have stated, finding a reed is somewhat of a personal preference. I think there is a lot to like in this brand, so do give them a try and see how you like them!

I obtained these reeds for my son, who plays clarinet. He prefers 3 strength reeds (although I didn't know that when I ordered them). He put the reed on, and it played beautifully. The sounds was crisp, solid and right on tone. My son also commented that these are the best reeds he's ever played on and he's thrill with the box.In looking at the reeds, they are well done. Consistently good, there is nothing to complain about and only to commend. The good news is that he loves the reeds. The bad news is that with better reeds, he will likely accept nothing but the good reeds (expensive) again. If you are a clarinet player (or responsible for some who is), these are exceptional reeds!
