I got this to shave some carpet that my cat has kind of torn up near the entryway to one of the rooms in the basement. There were many tufts of carpet sticking out and it was unsightly. Despite the fact the cat has a scratching post, she likes scratching that spot in the carpet. After attaching the clear plastic guide with the included screws, I ran the carpet trimmer over those spots and the tufts that were sticking up were cleanly shaved down to a flat level. It looks 100% better. The flat attachment offers the ability to pass the trimmer over large flat areas without worrying about cutting too deeply. You will, however, need to use the other plastic guards for detail work on the corners and edges as the plastic guard will not get into those. I did not use it long enough to know what the battery life is like, but it was long enough for me to do the job at hand.
