I am must have received a newer version of the yarn holder. I can pick mine up by the holer part and the stand part with the mechanism stays on just fine. I like that the holder's mechanism responds very easy when I knit and I don't need to extra pull for the yarn to unwind. The product is very well made and so far I have been very pleased with it.

If you knit or crochet and you do not have one of these you are really missing out. I had it on my Amazon wish list forever because I was reluctant to drop that much money on an accessory but I am so glad I did. It works so well, the yarn comes off the skein so easily. I never have to yank to get more yarn again. Not to mention that this elegant little thing is well made out of wood by a Company in Ukraine. I am happy to be supporting a business there. I am happy with this purchase, I’m just sorry I waited so long!Amendment: I just purchased another brand of a double spool for yarn and I must say it is very disappointing. This one spins effortlessly. I never have to stop crocheting to pull yarn with this unit. The new one hardly spins at all. I have to stop and pull just like I do when the yarn is not on a spool. I will probably send it back! This one costs more, but it is well worth the money.

This yarn holder is worth its weight in gold. I work with a lot of very large skeins when crafting plushie animals for my small business. This is one of the few yarn holders that is large enough to hold these extra large skeins, and the clamp keeps it firmly in place on my work area. Great quality and crafting. Highly recommended.

I love that I can do big projects with large yarn and not have to worry about it tipping over or not spinning because of the yarns size. I got the one with the table clip and it’s so sturdy and can handle my pulling while making large projects with bulky yarn

This yarn spinner is well-designed to work easily: smooth surfaces, weighted base with four feet for table-top use, and a clear disk to hold larger skeins. The only drawback is that the pole does not screw into the base; this means you must pick up the yarn spinner by the base. I didn’t find this to be a problem. It is more important that I don’t find myself scrambling around to retrieve a skein that has fallen from my table or lap hahaha!!

I am very impressed with the quality of the work and care taken in packaging and shipping. This is a wonderful tool made with a lot of care. The finish is absolutely perfect. The design is very smart, ergonomic and done by someone who actually understands knitting. The base is nicely heavy, this is a guarantee that the spinner will not turn over. The motion of the spinner is just right - smooth and steady.I was very impressed with the ease of putting it together and the quality of the packaging.I will definitely buy again.

Still fell over after putting a ball of yarn on it. Base isn’t heavy enough. Waste of money

Needed a portable holder for skeins of yarn that I just didn't want to fight with to find the center pull. Assembled very easily and quickly. Quality is great. Wood is finished in a pleasing color to highlight the grain, and is smooth all over. No areas to snag the yarn. The only things I needed to improvise on was a non skid surface for placing the holder on the arm of my recliner, and something to prevent the yarn from slipping between the bottom plate it sits on and the base and stopping the spin.I think it came with little adhesive backed silicone-ish feet, but that wouldn't work for my situation. Improvised with a remnant of a rug gripper that does the trick. Gives the base something to grip, and stops the holder from sliding around. To keep the yarn from slipping between the plate and the base, I improvised with a paper plate. I Snipped a small 'X' in the center of the plate to poke the tapered rod through, and pushed the plate upside down to rest on the bottom plate. Then placed the yarn on the holder. As you can see the large skein I'm using relaxes down to far exceed the small diameter of the bottom plate, but the paper plate supports it just fine and the working yarn does not slip between the bottom wood plate and base.4 Stars because of my situation, but if you're using it on a flat surface, and with small sturdy skeins, you won't have those issues!
