I bought this knowing the issue with the nut and bearing. What I didn't know was the bit is coated in a resin that prevents people from cutting their fingers on the blade. My original plan, upon buying, was to tighten the nut before I used it. I mounted this on my router and put a small wooden box around it so if anything flew off, I would catch it. Well, I turned it on and nothing came off. The second I tested a piece of wood. Obviously, the coating resin came off (intended), but 3 seconds later, the nut and bearing flew off. See photo. The pieces are so small, I could not find the bearing. While looking for the bearing, I lost the nut! I called Diablo and they do not make a 3/16" Flush Trim Bit - LIKELY for good reasons! This goes back today and plan to buy a 1/4" bit.

This bit worked great. There wasn't much tear-out and I used it on plywood. I didn't put much lateral force on the bit because I was worried about shearing the bit off the shank, but I went slow and everything was fine. I was able to cut pretty tight angles with the small diameter and I didn't experience any issues with the guide bearing. This bit was the only real option for the project I was working on and I'm very happy it was available.

I have used many Amana bits and really like them, particularly the miniature bits. I don't know of another company that makes a comparable bit. That said, the bearing on this particular bit just doesn't last. I had 2 fail within minutes. I was just tempate routing some inside corners from a 1/4 inch to a tighter radius. VERY light cuts. Needless to say, it also damaged my templates. Twice.All of Amana's other bits have performed quite well.

As others have said, after just a very short usage time, the retaining nut for the roller comes off. Luckily I was paying attention to this and noticed it coming off so stopped before destroying my template. Tightened it and it still came loose before finishing the job. A small drop of blue locktite seems to have solved the issue. Limited options for small (1/4 or less) edge trim bits unfortunately, so have to make what you find work.

It's the right size for the more detailed type finish trimming. Very sharp.

I looked around forever for a template/flush trim bit smaller than 1/4 in diameter and Iām so glad I found this one. I used a coping saw and files to get as close to the line as I could and then cleaned it up with this router bit. It left a super clean cut. Highly recommend this if you need it for tight spaces!
