These are great brackets and worked very well for stabilizing shelving to Billy bookcases. We purchased shorter screws than what came with them, but the screws that did come with them looked like standard wood screws (just a little too long).

The bracket indeed appears to be stainless steel (many Amazon products listed as stainless, are not). This at least responds to a magnet like stainless. I cut in to one of these, and coating also seems to be reasonable quality, too.The screws, however, are NOT stainless steel. Also, they are too small and flimsy for the bracket, and strip and break easily. The bracket holes and surrounding tapers are designed for much larger screws, which you will have to buy separately if you are going to use this for any application where you actually need this heavy a bracket.

I used these to install a 1X4 board as a small shelf for paperback books and it worked great! Good quality and very sleek looking.

I bought two sets of black to support two IKEA bookshelves that were continuing to fall down. Many reviewers here were concerned about the durability of the screws and that the manufacturer was issuing just the exact number of screws needed.I found each packet of screws to have 1 extra screw. Also, I could have sworn I had stripped a particular screw by the way the cross-head driver on the drill kept slipping over the head of the screw. Surprisingly, just the opposite: there was no damage to the screw head and no metal shavings evident - the screw looked good and went in on the second try. Of course, this was IKEA press-board and not hardwood, but still the project turned out well with no problems with the black screws. The shelves are solid now and will hold a full row of books. While bit pricey but for me, I will certainly buy another set of these brackets for the next two shelves that fail.
