Unnecessarily complicated (never thought I would use that word to describe a water bladder) .. to say that the leak-protection mechanisms are overkill would be an understatement. I gave up trying to keep the cap on. I'd think the layers of leak protection would make it irrelevant, but thought otherwise when the mouthpiece area filled up with dirt almost immediately. It was too large for my backpack when full... I could be wrong, but it seems to be slightly bigger than the standard size that my backpack was made to accommodate. The hose is comically long - and had to snake around my chest protector and practically tie it in a knot to keep it secure, and play hide & seek to access it with my helmet on. I hate wasting money, but it's also too cheap to bother returning. Chances are pretty good that I'll just discard it & look for a better one.

I found connecting the tube was easy on mine, but when I tightened the lid the same as another bladder it still leaked had to really torque it to keep from leaking.

I sincerely wanted to like this product— I had even ordered a second (which I returned) before I knew all of its shortcomings. It is not completely terrible, it does have some good points.PROS:— Wide mouth makes it easy to clean and fill— Nice sturdy mount on the plastic ring— Convenient handle on same ring— Insulated hose is nice— Having the bite valve, pull valve, and cap prevents hose leak and keeps dirt out of the mouth pieceCONS:— It is REALLY hard to get a good deal. Unless you massively over tighten the lid, it will dribble water. Then it becomes a bear to open when you need to fill or clean it.— The size is long, narrow, and thick, which makes it inconvenient for backpacking, as it creates a fat presence right down the middle of the bag and is harder to pack around. A flatter, wider design would be better.— The valve at the hose/bladder connection is prone to poor seating, which means the water doesn’t flow.— Finally, and THE WORST: The pull valve very easily pulls out of its seating, which opens up the hose completely. This happened to me twice on a multi-day backpacking trip. The first time, the bladder was full and water flew everywhere, soaking gear and emptying much of my water. The second time, the pressure was lower, and I’d learned how to contain it, so I lost less. It was just an inconvenience and an annoyance, but in a place where water is scarce, that flaw could mean life or death.Again, it’s not terrible, and I’ll continue to use it for low-stakes day hikes when I need plenty of water, but it simply is not a piece of quality gear that can be counted on when the chips are down.

You do need hand strength to push the tube into the bladder but when it snaps in you can hear it in another room. Screwing on the cap to the bladder requires patience and strength at least for me . My husband had no issue. What I love is the detail of how easy the bite is without leakage as other devices would dribble and I felt compelled to bite and lift the tube back to make sure water wasn't left in the tube. The push and pull to lock the bite is so much nicer as the other thumb turn required 2 hands for me to turn. Cover cap over the bite is so nice when throwing the pack in my car I don't have to worry where the bite has landed as I've had the bite land on the tip of my hiking stick before...yuck! I have bought neoprene insulator sleeves in the past, they get dirty, slide up down the tube, and the ends wear and threads unravel. They added a rubber seal on both ends and the one closest to the bite is where the wear and tear occurs and now my fingers are on the rubber part only.

Upgraded my hydration bladder from a 2l to this 3l with insulated tube. The old 2l tube wasn't insulated and was having issues with water icing up in it if I forgot to blow the water back down when showshoeing. In the summer the 2l was just lasting on longer day hikes (8+ miles). So far, six months of use from winter hiking to summer hiking this has held up well. Be sure that the large filling is fitted and secured after filling, or if you bend over, you'll get a nice cool shower, :-P. The detachable hose is great (I still need to get used to this feature though), so you won't have to unwind the hose from the staps and h2o slot in the pack. The pack has two slots for hanging in a pack, likely for a pack the company designs. My pack only has one a single velcro loop in the middle, which to date I've just hooke on the lid and it does fine.

Just returned from a four day backpack in the Sierra with this along. The hydration bladder worked well and kept me hydrated on the trail. 3 liters is about right for the average five hours on the trail. It fit well in my Gregory 65 pack. Stowing beneath the bear canister was not a problem. The mouth piece is efficient and can be pushed into an off position and covered with a dust cap. This item was less expensive than the brand name and performed well.

UPDATE: we received a replacement from the company and this one does not leak. Happy to have this with us on our upcoming hikes!I was very excited when I received it and immediate washed it out and filled it up to test it out. The circular area where you add water does not form a proper seal and leaks like a faucet. Very disappointed. Will be returning.
