These days I'm normally fishing for nothing larger than 2 lb river walleye or smallmouth so I'm typically packing medium light gear. Thought these clips would be the answer to stowing the rod whilst handling fish standing hip-deep in water without resorting to tucking the rod under an arm. And they actually work reasonably well...only that I need to have them clipped to my shoulder straps in order to keep the reel out of the water. And that's with clipping them just above the handle so the rod still has the ability to swing and hit me in the head. lol It's not a permanent solution; but until I can find a reasonable belt anchor for the butt, it'll have to do.As for the quality, the metal carabiners are exceptionally good with a nice thick build, matte finish and strong springs. The split-rings are a bit mediocre though and don't exactly match the colour of the carabiner. As for the rod clip itself, it's so lightweight that I'm still unsure of whether it's made of metal or plastic. The brushed finish makes me think it's the former, but certainly some form of aluminum hybrid. It literally weighs less than the metal nipper I have hanging from my other shoulder. And as for the foam - it's quite a bit stiffer than I was expecting so it's not as easy to get the rod in there, especially with one hand. The only way I've managed it so far is by supporting the clip with one hand and cramming the rod in diagonally with the other. And since the blanks on medium lights aren't exactly known for their backbone, I'm seriously questioning whether I should continue using them. The plus side is that the rod won't budge once it's in there (slide or otherwise), but even getting it out is a bit iffy. I've seen rods snap with considerably less force applied, so I'm a bit uneasy every time I stick one in there. At least it's near the thickest part of the rod where you'd expect the blank to be the strongest. I suppose I could always just widen the gap using a spacer when not in use; but from experience, this kind of dense foam resists deformation well over time. In fact, it's very similar to the foam inside my vertical rod holders, only thicker. Moreover, taken off of the carabiner, it barely weighs a thing so at least it's nearly imperceptible when on.Overall, in terms of their primary function, I'd say that they deliver. But I still might've preferred a softer foam coupled with some sort of clip-lock across the gap. Mainly because it would've been easier to manage with one hand. Otherwise, it's easily two thumbs up for the carabiners, and you can always re-purpose the ones you aren't using. And as far as the colours, it really would've been nice to have one in army green because the 2 blue ones are a bit redundant. Green is just less conspicuous when you're hovering half a foot above the water's surface. Great packaging though. Four stars for the set.

Great construction. the rod holding portion is pretty narrow, so you'll want to clip it near your shoulder where the smaller sections of the rod would be

This item shipped and arrived fast. This 3 pack of fishing rod holders are very well made. The have an anodized solid aluminum outer body and a dense foam core. The attached carabiners are well made and have a swivel added in. These fit my average sized rods with no problem but if you have heavy gear they may be a little tight and or not fit. I have attached these to our V haul boat to hold fishing rod(s) while I am tying knots and setting up my line on the Great Lakes. They will also work very well to hold our poles while in transport instead of placing them in the rod bay only to pull them back out. There are so many different ways you could use these. Each rod holder comes individually packaged. Overall these are well made rod holders with quality parts. I rated these 5 stars.

Nothing is worse then losing an expensive fly rod and reel. I wanted something to secure my fly rod to free up my hands while on the river. I just had the opportunity to try out the 3 Pack Fishing Rod Clips on my fly rod. At first I was very sceptic about the foam fitting around the thicker part of my 4 piece fly rod. The foam is very dense, the entry slit is small as well as the slots in the foam. One thing I didn't want to do was try this on the thinner parts of the rod like the tip for fear of breaking it.After a little effort, I was able to clip this onto my rod fairly close to the cork handle. It felt very secure and I have no doubt this will hold my rod while on the river. My only question is, with constant use will the dense foam lose its ability to maintain a grip on the rod? Time will tell (reason for 4 stars.)As for the rest of the rod clip, the outer metal that surrounds the foam and the Carabiner clasp are solid and I have no doubt on their durability. At the moment, I feel the price of $16.99 is fair for three rod holders and I recommend this product to others. As I use these more during the summer, I will report back on the durability of the foam.

After my wife lost a $175 rod & reel in the rapids on a river, we started tying "Everything" down. It was a bit more difficult figuring out how to attach to the rod. We used some velcro and lanyards. Worked OK, but now I found these. I'm sure I'm not using them as intended, but they are going to work out great. They seem to be made to fit smaller rods, like fly rods. But they did fit my spinner and baitcaster medium action rods with a little finagling. Just removed the rigid foam insert, pop it on the rod, squeeze it back into the retainer with the slot rotated 180 degrees, and it's all ready. I used the Pristis lanyards I had gotten previously to connect them up. Now again, I did a little change. I removed the larger clip from this holder and put it on the ring of the lanyard. This way I can use this larger clip to attach to my kayak and the smaller one from the lanyard to clip onto the holder at the rod. It will be much easier to remove it while fishing, leave the holder on the rod (doesn't seem to be in the way) without anything dangling from it while casting. I really believe this will work out fantastic for my spring, summer, fall fishing adventures. Can't wait to give it all a try. These clips/holders and lanyards are all built great and I highly recommend Pristis products. PS: You can also use them as intended, they were designed and field tested by people smarter than me LOL.

I got this mostly because I wanted carabiners with a swivel on them. The carabiners are perfect and didn't disappoint. The metal is welded, not pressed. It looks very strong.I tested the floats in the sink. They floated just fine by themselves, but cant carry much. They are a simple aluminum shell with some kind of foam in the middle. Part of the shell is cut away for some reason. When I attached my keyring they sank. When I attached a smaller version with just a single key they still sank. You should not depend on these. You better have a scuba tank because you are going diving.Attached is a picture of my key flat on the bottom of my sink, with the float pulled completely underwater.

Great build quality and it is actually scratch resistent. It's nice to have when wading to be able to work with both hands. It's easy to use and it holds the rod well for what it is. Good value for the money given that you get a 3 pack of them.

These rod holders will be handy come fishing season. They have a strong latching gate and have varying sized notches in the holder depending on your rod size and placement of the holder on the rod. While a simulated jostling of the holder attached to a rod proved successful I’m interested in the long term grip capabilities. Overall I have no real issues or mentions. I will update if any arise. Thanks for your time.

This worked well for my ultralight spinning rod. The clip and rod holder both have a good finish and work as expected. I found it really helpful to have this while tying on new lures without having to put down the rod.
