These 2x4 caps work well and fit very snugly. The plastic used is a bit flexible so I was able to squeeze them on the ends of my 2x4 railing as necessary. The snugness is a welcome fit because the tightness will prevent any moisture from getting trapped inside the cap and possibly rotting the wood; wood protection should be very good.I took a star off because the value for the money seemed a bit off since only 2 caps are provided for the price.

4.8 starsI used 4 of these to cap the legs of a basement lumber rack I built. Width-wise (the 1.5" dimension) they fit easily onto a 2x4. Lengthwise (the 3.5" dimension) I needed to chamfer the two opposing edges (used a wood rasp at 45°) to get them started. Once started, they go on easily, even over the full dimension of a 2x4. I tapped them home w/a rubber mallet per the seller's recommendation, but you could just bounce the board, cap end down, a couple times on a concrete floor or patio to settle themThey only cover about 1-1/2" of board length but that's enough to protect the end grain from moisture and maybe even shallow water entry into the basement. Would buy again

Wrong size is advertised. Actual size is 1.5 inches x 3.1 inches... approx. 1/2 inch too small to fit a 2 x 4.

will not fit on a 2X4 until you get them hot enough to stretch on to the board.

Fits well. Good protection against scratches. Helps prevent sliding.

As you see in the image, these will not fit a 2x4 (1½" × 3½") They will fit a 2x3, but that's all.
