Got these to protect the tops of the newly cut fence posts (5.5" x 5.5") at the gate. They fit perfectly and look great. Granted, they are black and will show dirt. But they should hold up a lot better than the wood caps we had on the prior posts (which are so degraded and ugly now).

I writing this review because of the reviews where these do not fit. These fit tightly as designed. I did have to do some sanding on the edges of my posts to install these. I used a rubber mallet and scrap piece of 2x4 to tap them into place. They look great and match the Trex railing perfectly. They are flat so that you can sit your beverage of choice there. I expect them to last for years.

I bought these by mistake as I needed 4" ones and so.ehow was misled by the description. They are 5", but to my great disappointment they are not made as 4" (3.5" actual). I really dont understand why amazon does not sell any flat metal 4" post caps... I ended up getting 4" non-slip pads for putting under furniture legs that work very well for me as post caps that I glued on to the pops of ny 4x4 posts (they look even better than the metal ones). The build quality of these 5" ones is good otherwise, but I had to return them because of the size mismatch.

I used this on my daughter’s town home to replace old broken wood post caps. I tapped them on with a rubber mallet. It was an easy install and looked great.
