I needed a reliable power supply to run a couple of strings of LED lights for cove lighting inside the house. I'm an electronics guy with years of experience and know-how to properly size a power supply with enough reserve. I started with the 200w supply which is way more than what I needed. My total current draw at 12 Vdc is 4.8 amps. The 200w supply worked great for about a year and then became intermittent. Got another one. Same deal. These run VERY hot even though they are located in a free-air environment with plenty of ventilation. Note: These are used every single day for approximately six hours continuously. So, after a couple 200w units, I opted for the 300w version (still the same 4.8 amp draw) and it worked but again, ran incredibly hot. By hot I mean up to 50 degrees C (I keep a temp probe on it at all times to monitor). That 300w unit worked great (although hot) for a year-ish or so and then the same intermittent on/off, on/off behavior. But it wasn't heat-related as it would do it upon turn-on and well under the 60 degree C max rating. Got one more 300w unit and after some time, same deal. Worked for a couple of years and then went intermittent. I'm done with these. Using another unit sold here (HitLights 12vdc 150w 12.5A) and am trying that. Will see how it goes but I can say that it runs much cooler. So far so good. Funny that in a couple other locations using the smaller units sold here I've never had an issue. I just needed a larger unit for this room and can't use those smaller ones. If this happened with just one unit I wouldn't write this but it's been four; two 200w and two 300w.

This is the best I have found so far... it's under its full rated load almost all the time now and did place to computer style cooling fans on top of it and it does not get hot.I would buy again...

This is a nice quality low-voltage transformer that I am using for outdoor low-voltage lighting. The housing and leads are well constructed. I mounted this inside my basement to avoid having it exposed to the elements. I use this particular one to run two sets of low-voltage lights with 32 bulbs. This wattage transformer is overkill for this lighting application, but my primary concern was not having a transformer get too hot. With this usage, the box barely gets warm mounted in my basement. I have a total of 4 of these transformers controlling other landscaping lighting zones and am happy with them as well. Hopefully longevity wise they will last a while.I recently added low-voltage lighting around the house and patio, and was immediately struck by the fact that there are no low-voltage lighting transformers that are smart home/device compatible. As the rest of my house lighting is controlled through smart apps, I wanted my low-voltage lights to be as well. Using this transformer plugged into a z-wave outlet let me control it through my SmartThings app.Time will tell how long it lasts.

I just needed something for my new garden lighting and this transformer did the trick at an incredible price, works great, I put it working with an automated Etekcity Smart Plug so that it turns on and off every day and or I can turn it on and off from my cell phone when I want to do this, so its a great combination.

I wanted to power some low voltage lights using a smart-home plug so I could schedule the lights with Alexa or Google Home. This no-frills power supply has worked perfectly for that. I just plugged the AC end into an outdoor smart-plug (purchased separately) and connected the DC output to my LED lights. Pretty cheap solution that works like a champ.
