I could not find suitable hose repair connectors in the big box stores. They had them but they were bulky and overpriced. I found these at Amazon, and I am completely happy with them. They are machined; not stamped, out of heavy brass and the workmanship is really good. They were also reasonably priced. An added bonus is that they threw in a couple of extra rubber washers! Great buy. Tip: the fit for the 5/8 diameter is pretty tight, which is good. I used a hair dryer to soften the plastic hose, and the fitting slipped right in.

But the jubilee clamps are lame. I wish they had better out there. The garden hose fitting is pretty nice, made of solid brass. Fairly beefy as well. But those clamps are likely to fall apart on you when you install them. Unfortunately, that appears to be common on just about any products that is relatively inexpensive. So be careful when installing them on your hose. I ended up using one of those wire clamp tools.

I almost threw my 100 foot flexible black hose away when it started to leak where it attached to the faucet. I watched a video on You Tube and decided to order this female thread garden hose connector kit. It was simple to repair it and now I have a hose that doesn't leak. I hate the old fashion style rubber hoses and the flexible hoses are so much easier to handle. It was very inexpensive to fix the hose....give it a try because it worked great!

Neither the barb itself, nor the 3/4" nut, is made from gold-colored aluminum, as are most of Amazon's hose menders. These are well-made from 100% brass.Aluminum will react with the brass water outlet valves found on our houses. In a few years, the aluminum end fittings will corrode onto to the water outlet valve on your house, making it necessary to destroy the female hose end to remove a garden hose from the water outlet. For me, for this reason, a brass hose connector is mandatory. They are made for 5/8" hose, which is .625" ID. The ID of the outside of the barbs measure .624" on mine. The barb OD's measures .667". They should correctly fit standard 5/8" ID garden hose.If they leak for you, note that the hoses I have recently repaired have a spline running down the inside of the hose, which if not removed or cut away, it will likely cause the connector to leak. This spline may be difficult to cut away even if you have a hobby knife. I have a small wood carving chisel or gouge with a rounded profile that is about 3/8" in diameter, which makes it possible to remove that inner spline without too much effort. Even then it isn't that easy to remove and leave a smooth inner surface on the hose end.I won't use a hose clamp on these hose ends, because they can cut your hand. I use the gray two-piece cast zinc clamps with stainless steel screws that come with many of the aluminum hose menders sold on Amazon, or with the $10 branded brass hose menders. The replacement plastic hose ends are no good either. The plastic eventually gets brittle and weakens over time, then breaks. This is my long-term solution for the cheap aluminum connectors that come with all but the most expensive garden hoses.

I will finally be able to move the leak catching bin out from under my garage hose faucet! This new fitting saved me from having to buy a whole new hose. Here’s what I did. I cut off the end of the hose that screws onto the faucet (using loppers). At first, I had trouble inserting the tapered end of the fitting into the bare hose opening. But then I grabbed my wrench and used it to widen the hole a bit. (See photos.) After that, I was able to jam the fitting in. The belt thing was easy to tighten. My husband was skeptical but when I turned on the water, NO LEAK. Woot!
