I purchased these hex shank drill bits 14 months ago. Today I finally opened up the package and tried to use one drill bit which broke IMMEDIATELY.To my dismay I found that the hex shanks are simply pressed onto the ends of the drill bits!The ends of the drill bits have a small flat surface that a crimp on the hex shank is supposed to help keep it in place.Please see photos I submitted of this trash.Seems to me that I got scammed. The value of these drill bits is zero, worthless.

Great assortment. I have several drill bit sets that have missing (broken) drill bits. This is a perfect choice to replace broken and missing drill bits. Nice to have several spares.

When the package arrived the plastic case was open and drill bits were everywhere! Took this photo half way thru the organization process, it took me about 30 minutes in total to sort all the sizes back out. I'm not sure if I have all of the smallest drill bits since I found about two dozen drill bits loose in the cardboard box it shipped in and the box corners didn't have tape to keep small things from falling out during shipping.On the upside, this is a really good price for the set. The quality isn't Kobalt but for something cheap to let students use freely they work adequately. I would not use these on steel (they shatter and bend very easily) but they function in wood, plastic or aluminum fine.If the company fixes their packaging problem I'd definitely rate this a 4 star set, until then 3 stars for the extra labor, risk of damage to the drills, and possible lost drill bits.

Like most of us, it's always the small drills that break the easiest. One little goof with the drill press and plink, there's a couple of bucks you'll never get back. What I like about this drill bit set is that they include a large number of duplicate small bits. I replaced the missing ones earlier broken in my drill index and I imagine I'll get a few years of a full index before I have to buy another set. I went into this purchase fully knowing that considering the country of origin (China) the quality would be suspect. But they appear adequate - I was drilling some steel yesterday and no problems. Best advice: use a drill press if you can, always use a drop of cutting oil on the bit as you drill into metal, use a relatively slow speed, and be sure what you're drilling is firmly fixed in place; the smallest movement will snap the drill. For wood or plastic these work fine, for metal just be gentle.

HSS drills are good for mild steel and softer metals and plastic or wood. With all metal, it is mandatory to use a good drill oil to help drill do it's job and not overheat. A drop or three every 10 seconds and slow speed is good, and the drill bit can go many holes. With stainless steel and hardened steel, use a cobalt bit and oil. This set is a great value. Just don't forget the oil!!!!!
