What this is;A solid - inexpensive, bang around, reasonably accurate chuck for general utility use.For $35-$40 you will absolutely get your money's worth. What this is not;In any way a comparison to a genuine $600-$900 Jacobs or Superchuck.A tool you should ever expect to do mill spec work with.I expect most buying this here, expect to bore holes in lumber or mild steel ect, without any need for or means to measure extreme levels of accuracy. If it's a buttery smooth feeling, accurate to within .00001 chuck, I doubt you would ever be looking to Amazon to suit those needs anyway.I doubt any two of these chucks would have the exact same runout, or QC, and sure, it doesn't feel like a Superchuck, but, I can tell just from running a high quality brad point bit in the one I received, it is adequate for my intended purpose of this chuck.I'd suggest even if you do happen to receive a faulty one, it's likely a random QC issue and it'd probably be worth giving them another chance to replace it. I doubt finding as decent a new chuck for so little $ elsewhere.Cheers

I was worried about receiving a cheaply manufactured chuck as it is hard to tell the difference among chucks with the on-line descriptions. I was pleasantly surprised about how well the chuck was made, finished and operated. I use it to hold boring bits and I use it on my tail stock of my wood lathe. If anyone is looking for a nice well made 5/8" chuck, I highly recommend this unit.

Have used the chuck on a drill press for several months. This chuck is being used on a small farm. I think the chuck has smoother action than others I have used in this price class. I think this is good value and is better than the original chuck that came with the drill press I use. You will need to freeze the tapered shaft (shank) and warm the chuck then assemble with pressure. I did this and have not had any problems with the chuck slipping on the shank. The largest hole I have drilled is 3/4" in mild steel.

This replaced the old worn chuck in my Central Machinery TT-16 drill. I picked up the drill for $40 at an estate sale and everything worked perfectly except the teeth on the chuck were worn out.I ordered this chuck and spindle after trying another one from another vendor that was $12 less. They sent the wrong parts in the correctly labeled box. It went back and I ordered this one instead. It dropped right in and with a couple taps of a rubber mallet it seated perfectly. The chuck rotates perfectly with no wobble or misalignment and the drills precise holes.

I bought this for my 8 by 14 inch mini lathe. I have now used it and It seems well made and of good quality. I ground the "tang" off the back so it does not extend out as far, but it worked fine without doing that. It is a big and beefy unit, and that is exactly what I wanted. A bonus is that it also works in my drill press.
