This yarn dispenser actually works well with yarn in cakes. This style doesn't work as well with a commercial pre-wound yarn ball (oval shaped).I like it more than those wrist ones that just tangle. You can remove yarn easily and quickly without having to dismantle the whole thing. The hanging magnetic style spins smoother and more easily than the ones that spin on the bottom.The material looks like bamboo. The edges are smoothed and the balance is nice from the weight of the wood. This one looks nicer than other ones with mystery painted wood.Size wise, it is larger than it needs to be. The ball on mine is 50g / almost 2oz and it uses only 1/3 of the stand. My 100g/3.5oz cakes take up half the size. The listing shows it "fitting" into a bag and that just seems way too cumbersome - you are likely leaving this at home.You can put 2 balls on it, but it just ends badly in tangles. It works better with same sized yarn.

I got this as a gift. I love it. Had to search it on Amazon to see how to put it together because only written instructions are included (no images of the assembled product) but once I got it together it was amazingly convenient and gorgeous! Just recommend adding pictures in the box.

Design is hard to work with to get the yarn to spin correctly. Maybe better with cakes.

Love love LOVE this yarn holder! This tool takes the frustration of yarn knotting up out of crocheting. No more need for pulling out yarn from the skein just to get knot after knot in the yarn. This yarn holder easily dispenses the yarn for you. Super strong magnet so no worries about your yarn skein falling off while working on your project. Will be giving as gifts to fellow crocheters. Remarkable product!!!!!!!

This came so nicely packaged! It included kind words, stickers, and even a cute little sheep needle size gauge. It would make such a lovely gift with this presentation! It was very easily assembled- 2 screws and one magnetic connection. It even conveniently included an extra screw (in case of fumble fingers) and the hex key to tighten them. It is very pretty. I don't know that I would consider it a display piece, but it is certainly functional art! I am very happy with it.
