There is extra width from the middle to the base of the blade; this puts the weight down into the hand and leaves the point much easier to direct. The steel is high quality and allows the blade to retain its shape and balance over long periods of battering. The blade was in fact designed for strong flickers who like a controllable blade, as the bottom portion is wide and stable and the top is both strong and flexible, owing to its lesser bulk and better steel. Colors vary.

Arrived with broken wire in the tip very cheaply made. I hope to have the wire replaced but I have no way of knowing if it is German or French or just cheap China crap. I am a mother of 5 fencers I have done business with Physical Chess in the past using Amazon and ordering directly form them they sell cheaply made junk do not wast your money.
