The factory seat clamp that came with the seat I ordered a while ago was cheap and ground down over a short period of time, so I went with this new Velo Seat Clamp and I am NOT disappointed! It’s sturdy and easy enough to assemble with a little dexterity, and I’m not worried that my seat with break into a 90 degree angle in the middle of a 20 mile race.

The new seat posts that have integrated clamps on top look better and are much easier to use and only cost like $5-$10 more than this clamp. This clamp was very hard to install because it's not wide enough for seat rails, you have to force it and because you have a bunch of little parts taken apart that are easy to drop and lose. I hate this thing and wish I had spent a little more for ease of installation and better appearance.

Most people install saddle than place post in bike. To install, place post in bike since you will need leverage to place seat and hinge onto the base. Next, place seat base on top tube post; you must do this first so that teeth bite into tube: if you do after, you will think the diameter of base is too small to fit over tube. Next, take 2 inner saddle plate hinges and align on saddle; while doing so wedge around base hinge. As you force hinges to align with the base, it will tighten around tube and bite into it; you may need to use the hinge axle and use it to leverage the holes into alignment; do this with both holes until in alignment and axle can slide easily through both. Than adjust seat angle and rotation. Finally, add nuts and tighten evenly with two wrenches. If the above is not followed, you will think the diameter of saddle clamps are too wide or small at any given point of installation. 3 stars for installation difficulty. With this installation technique, you cannot slide your saddle forward or backwards easily and you must go through complete installation from beginning.
