I used this tool to install all the valve guides on my VW air-cooled engine. It worked exactly like it should. The stem fits nicely inside the valve guides. No problems using this tool. I found that heating the cylinder head on a gas grill or an oven to 350°F and freezing the valve guides made the process much easier to install the guides with .0015 - .002" press fit. Using this method and some oil they tap right in with this tool, no hammering like I've seen others do in videos.

Pounding out valve guides on aluminum VW heads heads is risky. Aluminum cracks. There are air hammer tools that will do this job, but to remove a valve guide safely, a big hammer and this punch (and patience) works best.

screwed up 2 valve guides then got on the lathe and made my own works fine
