For the money, the design and performance of this bulb is outstanding. Welcome to the new Hortilux Super HPS 600w. I can't profess how much this bulb kicks butt. German lighting ftw!------updating review after 2 years: I still use this brand of bulbs, received 3 in perfect condition and couldn't be more happy the package was handled with care. However, I would design a better way to ship the bulbs incase the package was dropped or collision occurred. I would totally use a foam box housing that the original bulb box rests in using a square cut out on the interior; this would reduce in massive percentages in mercury and glass hazard + waste during shipping and I wouldn't even mind paying an extra buck or two myself for the Styrofoam at purchase...

For a 600 watt bulbs the Russia 5esecond best bowl that money can buy. There Is only one bulb other bulb with a miniscule amount of more par . The price of the light is double that of the and I did not notice any difference between the two bulbs. So my advice is save your money and buy the ushimo bulbs. They a are totally worth it!!!

Great bulbs. Terrible packaging. No fragile stickers and zero padding or stuffing inside the box. Somehow they arrived un broken. They’re $60 each and made of glass. Figure it out.

This is my first day running it but, so far so good. It does seem brighter than my old bulb, (inexpensive bulb sold by Gotham Hydroponics, did work well for me), and I can tell there's more blue in it. I hope it lives up to the hype and also lasts for a good nine months or so, at that point I'd replace it anyway. I'll update when I know more.*Update #1* So many people on here are saying how cool this bulb runs, it's not running one bit cooler than my old, inexpensive bulb. In fact, it may actually be raising the temperature by a couple of degrees. Not an issue for me, I don't have a heat problem, but if anyone is being swayed by the idea of less heat, don't be fooled. Nice bulb, so far, but not cool running, just normal I'd say.

This bulb works really well when it works. Mine only lasted a month on a new Apollo ballast and one morning I discovered both the bulb and the ballast had burnt out. I'm not sure if it was a compatability issue or what. Apollo replaced my ballast no questions asked with an even better ballast but I can't say the same for Ushio. After several emails back and forth with the seller about whether the bulb was actually burned out, they told me that would get back to me as soon as they got back from vacation. What? I finally just gave up and bought a Hortilux full spectrum which works just as good or better and is cheaper.

I was skeptical about bulb quality for quite sometime, having always used the $20-$30 chinese bulbs for my 600 and 1000. After a couple months of looking into bulb quality differences I went with this Ushio wish had fantastic reviews all over the interwebs along with excellent specs for my liking. Like most of the reviewers here have said, it is noticeably more intense light, rivaling my 1000 HPS no problem. It is also easy to tell that this bulb includes more yellow/green/blue wavelengths than any other HPS I have used. Can't vouch for longevity on this bulb as I've I only had it a few days. The plants are certainly taking to it well though! Just buy it, you won't regret it.

I got this light after my hortilux failed with a quantum digital ballast. I read that these are the best bulbs. It is similar in brightness to my 1000w hps but with way less heat. My plants are 6 inches away from the bare bulb(vertical growing) and they are fine. the temps in the tent are around 86F vs the 1000w which was around 90F. I never thought i liked 600w lights until i tried them. They are much easier to work with. Ushio is made in germany and is very reliable because of that. I like the simple look of the bulb and it has the same shape of Heath Robinson's bulbs. If you dont know who he is then look him up. he uses only 600w bulbs vertically.PS. I also purchased the lumitek bulb to test the difference. they look like the ushio bulb marketed under a different brand.
