So going to preface this with some backstory.I do sound for a living i had about 4 thousand dollars of microphones stolen from me when i came home from a show my company did.I replaced the most expensive ones but went for a leap of faith and bought the UA SD5 and SD3 3 pack to try out. I originally used a shure beta 52a for kick and a shure beta 98amp 3 pack for all my toms.these things seem to have a very neutral response meaning it picks up most frequencies i would say evenly( not flat not at all flat) but very evenly so you get a wide neutral sound signature.making so your able to do crazy eq moves to make things sound amazing live without the hassle of knowing your overdoing anything. then in the studio you can take those recordings put the plugin on it and as someone who owns a d112, d6, beta 52. this nails the general sound same thing with the sd3 they nail a 57, 58, 906,609 they just nail the tones. I will be buying the SD7 next and maybe the SD1 but the demo i tried of the pencil condensers was not very good they aren't well shielded and get noise from almost anything.
