Beauty shot of the TS-2.3 Wheel Truing Stand

Park Tool TS-2.3 Professional Bicycle Wheel Truing Stand

Walk into the service area of any bike shop in the world, and odds are good you'll see a Park Tool Professional Wheel Truing Stand on the bench — still the top choice of professional mechanics everywhere for over 40 years, and for good reason.

With extra-tall uprights and wide calipers, the TS-2.3 is capable of accepting most wheels commonly found on road, mountain, BMX, and hybrid bicycles, including wheels with disc brakes, aero rims and oversized MTB tires. Upright adjustment is controlled with an ergonomically-designed speed knob, which quickly adjusts the stand to accommodate any hub width in seconds. The sturdy uprights of the TS-2.3 feature integrated storage for the included thru-axle adapters, which allow for compatibility with thru-axle, quick release, and solid axle hubs without the use of additional parts or adapters.

The TS-2.3 is constructed from durable powder coated heavy-gauge steel and is manufactured, assembled and calibrated in St. Paul, Minnesota. Strong, comfortable knobs and spring-loaded calipers and caliper arm ensure smooth, consistent operation, and the removable composite caliper tips protect painted rims and fragile materials. 100% adjustable and rebuildable for a lifetime of use.

  • Maximum Wheel Size: Up to 29"+ with or without tire
  • Maximum Hub Width: 200 mm
  • Maximum Rim Width: 4"
  • Hub Compatibility: Accommodates quick release and solid axle hubs — also accommodates thru axle hubs using included TS-2TA.2 Thru Axle Adaptors

Something like this really isn't needed for the casual bicycle rider. But if you want to work on your own bike, intend to do your own tune-ups and maybe someday build some of your own wheels, it's great to have. This model from Park Tool is really nicely made for the price. A couple of things to note, definitely get the base for it as well and have some grease on hand for the threads and where the angle screw pushes against the uprights. This will make it smooth as butter and easier to adjust. My only complaint is that for price I feel like the base should be included.

I have always had a respect for Park Tools going back to my days in the bike shops. When other tools would fail, Park Tools would last. So I ordered the truing stand expecting a very similar experience, but it required me bringing out my mechanic skills before I could use it. Double check a wheel you have for dish using something like a WAG-3 or WAG 4 and then put it in the stand and make the appropriate adjustments. The one I got was more than 12mm out of dish. Just make sure you come into using the tool with the expectation you will have to calibrate it and you should be good to go (which is why I gave it a three star review - my expectation was to use it right out of the box, but it is what it is).

First – let me say that I like Park Tools. I have a number of their tools so that I can do my own work. I have purchased them because of PT reputation. To say that I was disappointed with the truing stand understates things. I purchased this stand because it is supposedly one of the best. However, when I went through the setup, I found that it was not calibrated. Not even close. When I pay $400 for something I expect it to show up in proper operating order. So, you need to calibrate it so that it is centered. That’s okay – Park Tool will charge you for their calibration centering gauge. What? It is discontinued! It is bad enough that they don’t make a simple centering tool and include it for $400. But then they discontinue the tool they had!I built my own centering gauge out of an axle and stiff metal rule. And, I calibrated the stand. But I tried the centering at three different positions. Each position was slightly off from the others. I was astounded at how far out of calibration the stand was.PT also does not include a thru-axle setup. They provide some tacky little wedges. You can buy a much better thru-axle setup online or at a bike store. It locks into the wheel and provides a base which will not change.Well, you probably want to mount the stand to make it easier to use. No problem! PT will only charge you $60 (+/-) for a mounting stand. Don’t want to spend $60 for another item to try and make the stand work? Mount it to a benchtop. Except, they put one of the mounting bolt holes behind the adjustment knob. Again, this is just absolutely annoying. The knobs for adjusting the uprights and the calipers turned nicely and smoothly but did not move the linked arms/calipers the same amount.I also tried testing the stand using a properly dished wheel. I checked the dishing by using the PT WAG-4 Wheel Alignment Gauge. I set the wheel in the stand and adjusted one of the caliper arms to just touch the wheel. Then, I reversed the wheel. The one caliper arm should have again just touched the wheel. It was off by 3 or 4 mm. No matter how much I adjusted the calipers I could not get a good setup.Pros- Very sturdy.Cons- Arrived wildly out of calibration.- No calibration tool. They have discontinued their tool. Had to make my own.- Even with a calibration tool I got different “centers” depending on the distance from the axle.- The knob for setting up the uprights was “loose”. One arm would move and the other would not move for a while.- The knob to adjust the calipers did not move the calipers the same amount.- Mounting the tool to a bench was annoying.I returned the stand, purchased a much cheaper one that works much better (after a little adjustment).

It’s a bit more pricy than other stands , but well worth it . This stand is well made , sturdy as hell and has instant product support if ever needed . Outstanding product and it’s not from China .

Sturdy, heavy, built to last, and extremely useful. But similar to some other reviewers I'm missing a few parts: knob (#1967), socket head cap screw (#1968), and caliper finger tips (2x #238-2) are nowhere to be found. The calibration is off by several millimeters as tested with a true and well-dished wheel: flipping the wheel always causes a gap between the rim and the left caliper finger, regardless of orientation. Disappointing for a stand of this price, but at least I can fix it using the instructions. Requires a base like the TSB 2.2 to be used unless you have a bench you can fasten it to.

The 2.3 is a great truing stand. It's solid, well design and accurately calibrated. One issue, during assembly I discovered the threads in the base weldment for the caliper arm adjustment knob were fouled with paint and burring. I had to chase the thread with a 3/8x16 tap to clean the paint and burring. I would expect that to be checked upon production of the product. Some may have not known how to correct the issue or had the tools handy to accomplish the cleaning task. This is a great product that will last me a lifetime. The QC was a bit lacking.
