Your cart is empty.The Spyre, a mechanical disc brake that offers superior performance with incredibly easy setup. This is a dual piston actuated mechanical disc brake caliper which provides precise clamping force. This translates into even pad and rotor wear because the rotor does not need to flex to one side during braking. We added a simple cable barrel adjuster to make fine tuning easy. All of this in an incredibly thin 40mm, 146g package, that works with any drop bar levers on the market. Rotors and adapters are sold separately. For tandem bikes, we recommend the Spyre caliper paired with our 2. 3 mm thick rotors. This will give optimum stopping performance for you and your partner.

TRP’s dual pivot mechanical disc brakes are excellent! Much easier to install and maintain than hydraulics and plenty of stopping power. I’ve installed them on a series of my bikes. I’m apx 180lbs and have run them down long, steep declines w/o problem. I use 160mm discs. I had hydraulic brakes on another brand name bike and eventually sold it. Too many recurrent squeaking/rubbing problems which required taking off the wheel and spreading the pads forcefully to rebalance the hydraulics! Plus I dreaded damaging a hydraulic lines which requires a trip to the shop, bleeding, skilled line replacement, replenishment of fluid. No Thanks!

this would be a good product except for the fact that the pad retaining bolt/pin is stuck because the factory painted it which formed a bond stronger than the strongest loktite. now i have a brake body with a mangled pad retaining bolt that has passed its' return date.

Certainly lighter than the Hayes I had, but they also use brake pads with more surface area (so less having to change them out I'm hoping, which on gravel was a bit too much with the Hayes), and they pull the pads in from BOTH sides. I was just thinking during my commute home a few days ago at what a pleasant upgrade these were.

I tried using with short pull levers and they bottom out before wheel lockup. Need long pull levers.

I use these on two different bikes. The biggest advice I can get is to buy high quality compressionless cable housing. If you don't, no matter how well you adjust/setup the brake, or how tightly you pull the cable, the brake may not perform well at all. I did not know this my first time around and was frustrated. Once I made the swap, these things performed great.The double piston design is far superior than any other single piston mechanical brake on the market. With proper setup they bite hard and offer better modulation and lever feel than BB5, BB7, Hayes, or similar models I have tried. The pads are both adjustable, along with the cable tension via the barrel adjuster.Overall the product has a quality feel and finish. I would have liked tool less adjustment for alignment, and I wish I would have known about using compressionless housing. Other than these two minor details, I wouldn't choose any other mechanical disc brake.
