This is a great little tea strainer. I'm using mine to strain out the loose tea I put into my teapot when I pour the tea from the teapot into a preheated thermal carafe. This tea strainer is a perfect fit for the top of my thermal carafe and makes easy work of my efforts to have hot tea available throughout the day. When I am done straining, I can place the strainer in its own saucer to catch any drips from the strained tea leaves inside. For those interested - I preheat my Harold Import Co. (Amazon) 75 oz, 12-cup teapot as well as my Pykal Stainless Steel 68 oz "Thermal Coffee Carafe (Amazon), with boiling water. Then I boil a third kettle of Alkaline Ph water for my tea. Although I purchased a fine strainer to fit my teapot (House Again Extra Fine Mesh Tea Infuser - A+), which did a perfect job of straining, I preferred the taste of Vahdam's Herbal Turmeric Spiced Tea (A+), better when I put the tea directly into the pot, letting it steep for 6 or so minutes before pouring the tea into the Thermal Carafe. the Empress Strainer fits perfectly in the neck of this carafe - I'm so happy). Why all the bother? Well, now I have 68 oz of hot, immune system-boosting, great tasting spiced turmeric tea available to me all day long, without having to reheat, rebrew, etc. I got the idea of putting the tea directly into the pot from another Amazon reviewer/tea drinker - Thank You! P.S. The strainer will also fit perfectly on top of just about any tea cup or mug.

I wanted one of these tea strainers FOREVER! I love tea and the whole experience-ritual of making tea. Being a British film/television geek only urged me on more! I would watch how they would make the tea and ask who wanted to be 'Mother'- THAT is what I wanted to do, be "Mother', pour tea for friends from a beautiful teapot using a beautiful strainer!! HA! So I found this 'Victorian' esk strainer. There are so many things I like about this... It truly is pretty, it works, it is EASY to clean, easy to store. The two things I do not like but do not deter from using is... I wish the handles were a ½ to ¾" longer to fit over fancy wide tea cups and the I wish the bowl it sat in was deeper. The strainer hits the bottom of bowl not leaving any room for extra liquids, so another ½" would have been perfect! The strainer is very firm and no leaves gets through. This is definitely a 5 star product- for use, beauty and ease of cleaning.Give this along with some loose tea to a friend- it will be used!!

It's attractive, and functional, and I like it very much. It's shallow, though, which is the reason for four stars. It would only get three stars, but I really like the little ... holder ... thing ... that receives the basket once you're done with the strainer. So this is how it's supposed to be used: Brew loose tea in a pot, pour tea into a cup through the strainer and the stray leaves are caught. This is how I use it: Put loose tea in the strainer, put the strainer over a cup, and fill the cup all the way up to the brim because the basket is so shallow, let it steep, and then lift strainer out and dump the tea.A deeper basket is much more useful in this regard. Generally I use my deeper basket and after I dump the tea leaves I rest the basket in the ... dish ... thing. However, i will say that the handles on either side of the basket I'm reviewing reach nice and wide and will perch on mugs and not just slender tea and coffee cups. For me, it's a backup. I misplaced my deep basket, purchased this, found my original basket, and now have a lovely cooperation between the two ... and a backup plan.

Lovely, and well constructed for the low price. The mesh is fine enough to strain Honeybush tea, which I make often for my children. The attractive wings sit comfortably atop all cups and mugs we own, and even a tall glass canning jar which I drink copious amounts of green tea out of; if I place it carefully it will even rest on top of the french press we use daily for steeping (although if the children get rowdy it has been known to get knocked into the french press). The mesh bowl itself is just small enough to fit in the mouth of our children's mugs and espresso sized cups. I have used it almost daily (sometimes multiple times a day) since we received it, and it still looks as good as new. I am highly pleased with the quality and price and would recommend it to anyone looking for a every-day strainer. (Note: almost all of the negative reviews are by people who mistook this product for a Steep-er, not a Strain-er)

This sits perfectly across all of my mugs. I have used it on every cup I own except the super wide mouthed ones that you might get a huge foamy cappuccino in at a coffee shop... those are obviously too wide. It sits lightly atop my tiny japanese tea cups, it looks beautiful with my fancy china tea cups and works like a champ on everyday coffee mugs. The mesh is very fine, but obviously no matter how fine the sieve, some tiny tea bits get through occasionally. For example, my husband's lychee oolong tea is super fine, and you do see some tiny black flecks at the bottom of your cup. However, with a good tea leaf this is not a big deal, nor does it detract from my tea enjoyment. The greens, blacks, most roobios, maté, and herbals have for the most part been large enough to catch in the strainer. Again, small flecks are not bothering me much so I haven't been hyper vigilant. I did really notice it on the one oolong though. The strainer is attractive to look at on the table and the dish that it sits in prevents messes perfectly. Please note this is not designed to steep tea... it is meant to catch loose leaf tea as you pour it from a pot into your mug. It is not necessary for bagged tea. I use it with both my tea pots; the one has a large holed strainer built in that lets smaller leaves through and the other has no strainer at all.I've had this strainer for about a month, and can't see it letting me down in the foreseeable future. My only regret is that I didn't order it sooner... I'd wanted it for over a year!
