THE TORTOISE PADS STORY
Family owned and run. Tortoise Pads was conceived when the founder, Keith Jacobson (pictured left), decided to start skateboarding at age 55 because he wanted to hang out with his 12-year-old son at the skate park. For him having the best pads was not an option, it was a necessity. He quickly found out that the sports industry was severely lacking in quality, high impact hip and butt pads. That’s when he started making his own.
Keith spent months in his garage designing and modifying his padded shorts. He used his experience as a material science engineer to developed his multi-density foam configuration. The result was a product that provides both high-level protection and comfort. Keith carefully selected the pad shapes and placement to give the user a complete range of motion with maximum coverage. MULTIPLE LAYERS OF PROTECTION
Our T2 impact protection shorts contain a uniquely engineered Multi-Density High Impact EVA foam configuration which gives greater protection while reducing overall pad thickness. The denser layers of foam dissipate and absorb more of the impact’s energy. The softer layers provide cushioning as well as additional protection between you and the ground.
BREATHABLE MESH SHORTS WITH MAX-DRI MOISTURE MANAGEMENT POCKETS
Tortoise Pads impact protection shorts are made from a durable Nylon-Spandex power mesh fabric that maximizes airflow and provides great breathability. The Poly-Spandex pockets have MAX-DRI Moisture Management Technology. The MAX-DRI technology has enhanced fibers with excellent wicking capabilities that pull moisture away from both your skin and the power mesh shorts. This fabric will aid in the evaporation and cooling process and will help keep you dry and comfortable in hot conditions.

Bought these in early 2019. I cannot recall how I found out about this company. Possibly just using google to search for protection pads for snowboarding after I injured my tailbone pretty bad. I came across a lot of other cheaper constructed brands, but they did not have good reviews. It may be more expensive than other brands, but the product is way more than worth it.The tortoise pads fit perfect. The protection allows me to focus more on my snowboard riding as confidence is gained from not have to worry about hurting from a fall. I bought spare shorts and pads with my order in case the original ones start breaking down. 2 years and multiple trips to the slopes along with a lot of rough falls, the pads and shorts show no signs of wear. The fitment is perfect (adult medium 5'9" 138 lbs). It is snug and the shorts and pads will not shift around even after multiple falls. It also does not restrict movement. I still have full range of motion. When I fall, getting up is not affected. It is so comfortable I forget it is on.Don't go cheap with other brands. When it comes to safety, just save the money until you have enough, buy these pads and enjoy the comfortable protection. These pads have saved me from injuries and pain multiple times. Made in USA and the quality shows. A nice bonus is to be able to sit in the ice, snow, cement or metal benches and still have cushion underneath you. It also prevents your bottom from getting wet is the melted snow already soaked through your snow pants. The owner is very helpful and will stand behind this product. Please support the company.

These are e best impact shorts we have tried, well worth spending a little more for better quality. My son will not ride his scooter without these now.

Great for protecting my figure skating daughter. Finally grown out of it after 2 years. Profile is good, not protruding like other designs and does it’s job. Like that you can adjust the thickness of the pads.

After a Season of learning to Snowboard as an adult with over 100+ falls, I can vouch for these. Yes the padding is stiff, but that's what saves your tailbone fall after fall on snow/ice. I recommend these to everyone now!

Purchased these for snowboarding. Work great for beginners, or people trying to get into doing rails, boxes, or aerial tricks. Saved my tailbone, and rump many times. Originally got an adult small because I was desperate and there wasn’t a larger size available. Ended up purchasing an adult medium about a month later when that size became available, which fit much better. I’m 175lbs, athletic build, and 5’11” (but on tender I’m 6’0”) Figured I would have to eat the cost of both shorts, but I reached out to the owner, Keith, he replied to my email within 5 minutes, on a Saturday morning, and he sent me a return label right away. Solid product, and great customer service. Will get my kids each a pair when they get a little older.
