These tensioners seem like a great concept and worked for about a week until a little wind popped them loose and broke the a spring mechanism that tensions the wire. Back to the drawing board.

After a couple of days the cable clip failed on one of the corners. Then after a week the cable winch busted on another corner. Ended up using ratchet straps.

The winch will not hold up with winds. The ratchet isn't strong enough to hold up in 20mph winds. I have already had to replace two of them. I would stay away from these and go a different route.

We had a major windstorm rip through and.. rip down two of our shades - severing the old “heavy duty” ratcheting straps we had, and even busted through some coated steel wire (that may have been not tightening the nuts enough…) and I wanted to make sure they didnt come down again.. grabbed this kit because it had next day/overnight delivery and was cheaper than all the other options. There are zero instructions in the box, but it’s pretty easy to figure out. I did hand tighten with the Allen key that came with it, but then used my drill with the appropriate size bit to get it a little tighter at the end. I wish I could just buy the cables and winch parts, but Im going to buy another whole kit because the parts are useful.

I had a defferent set with weak cables and flimsy parts. This is SOLID. I used it for a large Sail Shade.
