The quality is good. The web site description is confusing for me in regards to the size.

Ignore the reviewers saying the blades are made in England—“Made in China” right on the label! That’s too bad! Chinese steel 2 inch blades can be found cheaper elsewhere!

Fit perfectly in the WWII era Stanley No. 5 I’m renovating. Out of the package I sharpened the blade and added a microbevel and tertiary bevel. In minutes it was razor sharp and ready to use. It was so sharp that I accidentally grazed my finger against the edge and it effortlessly sliced to the bone. I would NOT recommend using that method to check the sharpness of your plane iron but I would definitely recommend this replacement iron.

Many questions have been asked about modifications to make replacement irons fit old planes. I can definitively state only one specific answer: this blade WILL fit an old, type 15(1931-1932), No.5 Stanley/Bailey with no modification required whatsoever to the sole throat. However, like all new irons, it arrives sharpened but in need of a final touch-up honing. For reference, the original (?) iron measured anywhere from 1.75mm to 1.91mm, the differences due to rust build-up: call it 1.83 as an average. The new iron is 1.89mm and fits with plenty of room for throat adjustments for different cuts.

Made in England iron which is within half a thousandths of .08 or 5/64 inches thick and 2 x 7.5 inches. Mine came perfectly square and quite flat with fairly fine machining marks which makes lapping the back and finishing the sharp fairly easy. It came ground at 25 degrees which was also fairly finely ground and didn't take much effort to hone. I'm very happy with the quality for this price. I used mine in an old Miller Falls #9 plane which is comparable to a Stanley #4 in type. Personally, I like standard thickness plane blades. They are easier to sharpen and when my plane is set up well, I get no chatter. This blade may not be as good as one of the high end aftermarket blades but it costs about a third or less as much and works just fine for me. It takes a good edge and keeps it at least as well as the original decades old iron I inherited the plane with did.

Fit perfectly a #5 Stanley. Not much work to put an edge on it, seems to keep an edge fairly well. I tend to go overboard and sharpen before and after each use and sometimes during. Guess that's why I need to replace the nubs. The first project I used it on for quite some time and it performed well. I purposefully punished this blade and it blunted as expected but took edge back quickly.I have since purhased 4 more to help along neighbor/students.Learning to hand sharpen will help with some difculties others may run into.

Product dimensions shown, are not accurate.I purchased this as a spare blade so as to make it into a slightly cambered cutting blade, in my #4 and 5 hand planes. The blade I received WAS NOT ground square. One edge was sloped .040-.050" and rounded.Cutting edge was not 90 degrees to the blade length.(Perhaps the operator fell asleep and leaned to one side during the grinding process). The blade had to be reground, honed and stropped to make it function for its intended end use, to make it "scary sharp".Was able to make shavings of .001".(Before that sharpening process, I maybe could have used it with a mallet and make chopping cuts). This product was made from a "good steel", like used in quality cutting tools. The material thickness is .078" thick---would have preferred .125" thick material, for more rigidity.(.078" thick can easily flex). For the price, this is a good blade.BTW---the blade received, does not come with the chip breaker, as shown in the photo.
