Tips for checking and addressing problem of whistling

Flex Line Problems:

1) Used a whistle-free line with varying ridge sizes, which helps to eliminate noise.

2) Chosen a line with a wider diameter to minimize whistling by allowing the right amount of gas to flow to the burner at a lower rate of speed.

3) Taken care to avoid sharp 90-degree turns and/or kinks in the line during installation.

Gas Pressure is Too High

1) When a high level of pressure is applied to a small opening, the result is a whistling sound. This is the mechanism at play when the line pressure in your fire pit gas installation is too high.

2) Since natural gas is typically transported at high pressures, a regulator is often required to mitigate this pressure before the gas reaches the burner (Keep in mind that this work should only be performed by a gas installation professional, since they have the know-how to size and install the proper regulator for your fire pit configuration).

Pressure guidelines are as follows:

Natural gas: Between 3.5” WC and 7” WC.

Propane: 7” WC and 11” WC

I got this through Amazon Warehouse. Hose will bend pretty tightly, but it isn't flexible like a rubber hose, so if you want something you can easily coil up this is not your hose. When I unboxed the hose, I found an important error made by the original purchaser: the conectors were screwed on to the hose, but NO teflon tape was used. This absolutely WILL LEAK WITHOUT THE INCLUDED TEFLON TAPE. So I guess I know why it was returned. Minus 1 star due to the black paint apparently chipping rather easily during the original purchasers attemp to install. And the returner didn't put the teflon tape back in the box either, not nice. You must use yellow teflon tape or yellow pipe dope (NOT WHITE) to install this type of propane connectors, or you will have leaks which are a fire hazard!!!

Look at stores and Amazon has what I was looking for, heat resistant and btu rating needed. Usually long length has lower btu.

After several tries, this gas line has next to no whistle on an outdoor fire pit. I have relatively high pressure coming in and too many sharp turns for shorter lines. Key was to keep all turns to gradual as it led up to the burner. No other connectors. At last, quiet and strong gas flow.

This seriously worked. No more humming or whistling. Was a bit skeptical at first. , but it did the job. Now I can enjoy my fire pit in silence.

Product works perfect. Fittings are nice touch. My 60k BTU fire pit requiring a 4 foot hose went from unusable due to whistle to zero whistle but upgrading to this hose.
