I've installed two sets of these and been very pleased both times. They are good quality, mostly metal, and they are relatively easy to install. The biggest benefit is how easy they are to adjust. With just minor tweaks, these will shift from your highest to your lowest gear, without coming off and getting the chain stuck in between the gearset and the bicycle frame. They are easy to use and intuitive. I can see how professional cycling racers would need precisely-adjusted index shifters, but for the rest of us this is an easily installed, troublefree alternative that works great for the do it yourselfer. I only wish I could have all the time back that I used to spend trying to get index shifters adjusted just right, before I found these!

I've used similar friction shifters (Falcon) on other bikes and already knew I liked them, so there were no surprises with this set for me.I like these shifters because they are super cheap compared to other options like trigger or grip shifters. They're dead easy to install and maintain because you don't have to worry about indexing. You can make adjustment on the fly by tightening or loosening the screw that presses down to generate the friction. They are really easy to use, you just push till the derailleur changes gears and like all friction shifters they allow micro adjustment at the lever to "trim" shifts. The have a clicking sound to assist in knowing how much to move the shifter for each shift.Since they just pull as much cable as you make them they work with wide range of derailleurs without issue. I used them on a trip along the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh PA to Cumberland MD. They worked great and shifted perfectly the entire time. I used them with a Shimano Alivio front 3 speed mech and a MicroSHIFT Marvo LT 9 speed rear mech. The open clamp on these shifters would allow them to be installed almost anywhere, like inside of the loop on a Jones Loop bar. I have them installed on trekking bars.I don't like the bulky rubber covers, I think they make the shifters look cheap. They are removable but they are pretty uncomfortable without the covers. These are FRICTION ONLY, not indexed. This could be a con for some that don't realize that these don't work the same as shifters that normally come on bikes were one click drops one gear.Shifters came with cables and housing. I was able to switch from my downtime shifters to these in less than an hour and with only the cable and housing included (reusing the housing on my chainstay). The only issues I have is that they rub on my Tektro Eclipse MT 2.1 MTB Universal Brake Levers. The lever has a thick mount and I’m not concerned about it but it’s leaving a slight mark in the lever mount. It may not be an issue for other levers…

I'm working on a 1987 Novara Ponderosa that was in need of a set of shift levers. The old ones were Deore MT60s, the top caps came off so I figured that I should install some new ones.I've had previous experience with these, and for the price and quality I can say that they perform well. I like friction shifting for its ease of use and simplicity. As a daring stunt (and part of a budget build), I have hooked up a lever to work with a SRAM PG1031 10 speed cassette with a Shimano Altus RD-M310 rear derailleur. With all adjustments fine tuned, it worked fine. They are currently installed on a 3x5 Deore MT60 drivetrain. Again, they work just fine.I would suggest that you put some blue Loc Tite on the screw threads to keep them from loosening.Kudos to cyclingdeal_usa for ultra fast shipping. Will buy from you again.I will be building a "Home-Brew" cyclocross bike soon and I'm considering putting these shift levers on them.

It seems difficult to find the old tried-and-true friction shifter, especially without indexed clicks. This shifter is a true friction shifter. An added bonus is the microclicks you feel while moving the shifter. That works to give some feedback as to how far you've moved the shifter. It works smooth and has a good range. I now have it working with an SRAM 10-speed road derailleur added to a mountain bike frame and an old 6-speed road wheel with a spacer to take up the 5mm axle length difference. That's a crazy combination of old parts and the shifter could care less. It just works. That's great as I didn't know if changing from Shimano to SRAM would be a problem since they have different cable pull ratios. I can change out to an 8 or 9 speed wheel without changing the derailleur or shifter. I have seen a recommendation to only use friction shifters up to 9-speeds, but I wonder if this would even work ok with an SRAM 10-speed since it has a different cable pull ratio.Cables came with my shifters. I really didn't expect to get cables too at such a low price. Another reviewer said the cables weren't great and switched them out for expensive ones. I kept the included cables. You don't need to replace them with "compressionless" cables since you aren't using SIS or indexed shifting with friction shifters. Keep the included cables unless you really notice some kind of cable binding issue that isn't a simple problem with a jagged cable end cut(fix by filing smooth and opening the end with a philips screwdriver). The lever mechanism is metal where the shift cable rides in a slot, but the housing is plastic. The levers have very large plastic pieces covering the area you contact to shift. For the price, I think the plastic housing is ok. The product didn't make 5 stars because of the too large plastic lever covering. I would buy it again though I would pay a little more for a metal-only lever or a lever with a thin plastic covering.
