I added this subwoofer to a mature home stereo of 2 large main speakers, 2 sets of surround/fill-ins, and 2 standalone super-tweeters. My Family Room is large at about 800 sq,ft. In this set-up, the sub adds a nice bottom end, plays quite loudly, and is a definite upgrade to the system. I usually play at club-level volume, and the SOUND TOWN CARME powered 18" sub w/DSP holds its own set at about half-volume. I like that the amp is an air-cooled design with no noisy fan. The amp also does not buzz or hum loudly like other makes when turned on. Recommend the use of XLR cabling. I give Sound Town Customer Service 5 STARS, as they dealt honestly with me when my first choice did not meet my needs.

I bought one of these to check out, we figured either they were nice quality at a great price or overpriced junk. When we got it i thought it looked nice and the weight was good (it was heavy) which means it had good thick plywood construction and hopefully a driver that was of good quality. We plugged it in against a 15" powered Turbosound Milian sub for testing.First thing i noticed was the display it is near impossible to read unless you lay on the floor, the viewing area is about +/- 10deg and with most of these speakers you are not going to be putting them on a table, so trying to change the settings is going to be a problem. I did like that it appears to have a bunch of dsp options but honestly i gave up trying to mess with it after 2-3 because of the bad screen. We hooked both speakers up and with this one i put a 12" top speaker on it because it has the optional speakon output. Then we noticed the output was very very low. the 15" was easily 20-30x louder. so i think we got a bad amp in ours. The optional speakon output for the mid/high speaker worked very well and sounded clear and strong. Maybe 2-300w output.Going over the rest of the speaker it does look like a budget speaker, the grill is very nice but there is a lack of comfort like nice handles, corner protectors. It is too bad the amp is bad in our unit so we could not really tell if it is of any good quality, it appears to just be an inexpensive speaker. The bad part is i bought through Amazon, i have been working to return the speaker because it was doa, the seller will not provide a return shipping label and I have submitted 3 a-z claims, amazon has not been helpful. A lot of my concern is because it is a no name brand making sure i would have help if there was a problem so i chose to go though Amazon. However i have been left with this lemon. So if you buy one and it is defective be prepared that you most likely will not get any help from Amazon.
