FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?

How does the dog get the water from the bowl?

Dogs drink like cats in that they reverse curl their tongue and plunge it into the water and the water ends up on the back side of the reverse cupped tongue in that chamber and also to the front side of their tongue as they pull it into their mouths and repeat the process. These Bowls have a pool of water at the base of the round shape of the lid roughly 1/2 of an inch deep. The distance from the top of the ball shape of the lid to down where the water level sits is roughly 1/2 the length of the average sized tongue of the respective Breed Size Lid. The dog rests his muzzle at the top of the ball shape on top of the lid and his tongue laps up the water from the pool at the base of the round shape. As their tongue plunges into the pool of water the shape of the ball shape forces even more water up the sides of it and into that reverse cupped chamber on the backside of their tongue while they drink. The water automatically replenishes and stays at that 5/8 inch level.

Does the dog still get the same amount of water on a daily basis?

Yes, the Slopper Stopper bowl does slow down your dogs drinking by half the normal rate of consumption time but they continue to get the same amount of water they would normally drink throughout a day. The bowl allows for 85% or more of the water to be consumed by your dog versus other bowls, which end up with 30-50%+ of the sloppy water all over your floor, for you to clean up. For all those dogs that drink too fast and throw up because of it, this bowl greatly helps with this bad habit.

Why does my dog make more of a mess than I thought he would? There is a break in period of 2 to 3 weeks to see maximum results.

The majority of cases it works right away but sometimes can take up to 2 weeks for the maximum amount of mess to stop. For those first few weeks your dog may make more of a mess than you want and it is usually because they try and put their whole snout down into the circular area. At about 2 weeks he will get used to it and figure out that it is much more efficient to drink by resting his muzzle on the top of the ball shape instead of jamming his snout down into the hole. You can look to see roughly 85% of your old mess is gone using this bowl, in some instances that percentage is even higher. We have seen many instances where a dog learns to drink from this bowl and then will only drink from it, even when there is a wide open/no top open water bowl next to it. They really enjoy drinking from the Slopper Stopper Bowl once they are used to it.

How long does it take for my dog to figure out how to use the bowl?

Some dogs go right to the water and start drinking, some may take a day or so to get use to it. An easy way to start them drinking from it is to put just a a little bit of peanut butter on your fingertip and rub it onto the inside lower edge of the ball shape of the lid. Once the dog smells the peanut butter they will go right to it and then realize there is fresh clean water for them to drink.

How effective is the unit at keeping the breeds with long ears, hairy ears and long beards completely dry when they drink?

The Utility Patented design prevents breeds with long ears, hairy ears and beards from get those areas wet. This greatly reduces those areas from getting wet and creating a mess. If you have a breed that has an especially long bearded dogs like a Labradoodle pay close attention to the width measurements of the lids above compared to the width of your dogs tongue and order the width that is 10-15% bigger than the width of your dogs tongue.

If I have multiple dogs, a smaller one and a larger one, can my smaller dog drink out of the bigger bowl?

This question depends on what type of smaller dog. If the smaller dog has a thinner and longer snout then yes, smaller dog will simply put his whole snout down into the circular area and drink from the water at the bottom. If you have a French Bulldog with a very wide face and short tongue that breed would have a problem drinking from a Large or a Giant Lid Bowl because their wide face gets in the way. Take a look at the opening sizes and then figure out whether your smaller dog can get his snout all the way to the water. Another option, you can always order a second bowl with the correct sizing for your smaller dog.

What if my dog is a puppy and not full grown and expected to continue to grow?

This bowl was designed to be used with a full grown dog. If you know your dog will continue to grow into a bigger sized Breed Lid than you'll need to buy multiple lids to accommodate his growth. Example: You have a 4 Month Old Lab Puppy that will be roughly 70 pounds when full grown but he's making a mess now and you want something that helps now. Well if he is 4 months old and only 35 pounds he needs a Medium Breeds Lid (21-50Lbs), then at full grown he needs the Large Breeds Lid (51-85Lbs). You would simply buy 1 extra Lid Only of the smaller Breed Size Lid, then switch it out to the Large Lid later on as he grows. Also note that puppies and dogs as they are growing are much worse of drinkers than at full grown as they are still developing size wise and mentally.

Is the Bowl DishWasher Safe?

Yes, but dishwashers all have very different levels of hot water, please wash on top shelf.

How often should I clean the unit?

Hand Wash the bowl and lid every two days and take out and clean the gasket every month. Dishwasher the 1 time a week.

Our puppy's breeder recommended this water bowl and we are not disappointed. It is perfect for our Australian Labradoodle and eliminates the drippy, wet mess that occurs with other bowls. Yes, it is expensive compared to other water bowls. In my opinion, it is worth it! Our puppy is only around 8 lbs. now, but has been using the medium size bowl without a problem. Since this is designed for 21-50 lbs., I'm happy that he should continue to be able to use this bowl as he grows.

I never thought I'd spend $50 on a dog bowl, let alone feel compelled to write about it. But here we are. If you're tired of dealing with endless puddles created by your dog's enthusiastic drinking habits, this bowl is a game-changer.We've always had a few drops here and there from our dogs drinking, nothing a simple mat couldn't handle. Then our golden retriever joined the family, and those drops became puddles and rivers throughout the house. I couldn't figure out how trails of water were appearing 30 feet from the bowl until I watched her drink one day. She lifted her head, and I swear there were actual streams of water cascading from her muzzle for a solid three seconds. We tried a bowl with a floating top to limit water access, but within days, she outsmarted us and figured out how to submerge her entire face anyway.Enter the Slobber Stopper, an intriguing feat of engineering. Yes, it requires a bit more effort than just filling a regular bowl. There's a stopper you insert when attaching the lid, creating a vacuum that controls water availability. Will we inevitably lose this crucial piece someday? Probably. But for now, we're enjoying our puddle-free existence, so it's worth the extra effort. The bowl insert is sized, so be sure to order the right one for your dog. We have two different-sized dogs, so we opted for the larger size to accommodate both, and it's working well for each of them. As a bonus, the bowl holds about a gallon, so I usually only need to fill it once a day.If you're tired of feeling like you live in an indoor water park courtesy of your furry friend, the Slobber Stopper might be the solution you never knew you needed. It's not perfect, but it's certainly made our floors a lot drier and our lives a little easier.

We've had this bowl a few months now. Its a game changer. When full, it will last 3 dogs one full day. Since its arrival, pools of water and overturned water bowls are a thing of the past. We've come home a few times to find it in the middle of the kitchen floor, so our water loving hound hasn't given up trying to play in the water and overturn the bowl - but the bowl remains in one piece and no spills. Totally worth the money.

Excellent quality! Good sturdy stainless steel bowl.Works like a charm for the Great Dane. It does take them a while to get used to because they can't slop up water litres at a time. ;-) but it certainly cuts down drastically on spillage.Delivery far exceeded expectations! Took less than 48 hours from order to delivery.

Fantastic product , excellent quality , easy to use. This will eliminate and paw digging in the water as well as near perfect messes on the floor from beard dripping in the water. Only the snout goes in the water with very little water on your floor. Large fill capacity , stainless steel bowl is thick and sturdy, the plastic is strong and durable . Well worth the extra money

Our lab would leave at least a measuring cup worth of water on the floor every time he even took one sip of water. This has eliminated 90% of the water on the floor. The dogs are not really excited to be restricted by the speed they can gulp water, but that's kind of the point. Sure, they take longer at the bowl, but they can drink to their hearts' content and we no longer have to have a towel or mop ready to soak up the water. For refilling, we don't worry too much about the procedure and initial level of water in the opening. It might be too much water in the opening at first, but the dogs drink it down to the designed water level in no time. My only difficulty is the seal of the lid to the bowl. It definitely seals well, as it needs to keep the vacuum so that the bowl does its job, but sheesh, it's hard to get the lid off! I'm sure it will get better over time, and the bowl is working really well!My last gripe is the price. I would have purchased this long ago, but I couldn't justify the price. I'd even get more of them for different locations, but no way is it worth the price. I had a hard enough time justifying the purchase of just one bowl. I'd recommend this to friends and family, but again... the price is ridiculously high. I think the seller would make a lot more money on these by selling so many more of them with a lower price.

I have 1940 wooden floors that have lost their finish. My newfie was dropping lots and lots of water on the floors after drinking from a regular water bowl (he puts his entire face up to his eyes in the water bowl) . I constantly had towels on the floor (like you would a carpet runner) it looked terrible. The towels would get wet, so then there was wet towels laying on the floor. I was at my wits end, and so worried about having to replace the floors because of the water. And the water was not just where the bowl was, it was all over the house. I bought the Slopper Stopper figuring if it didn't work I would send it back. I was also hesitant about the price. I've had it maybe 3 months now and I can't believe how well it works. I don't need towels to line the floors all over the house anymore. It actually works.........and for that reason I'd say it is definitely worth the money.A word about customer service: When I received my order it came with a Large top instead of a Mammoth top. I was pretty sure that I ordered the largest since my dog is now near 150 lbs. It was a weekend, so I called and left a message. Before Monday the owner sent me a text about my call and then he called me Monday as well. He sent me a new lid the size that I wanted and did not require me to send back other lid even though I offered. He was very personable and I enjoyed speaking with him. He really goes above and beyond to make sure that his customers are taken care of.Pros:My dog drank from the bowl immediately with any hesitationNow more dripping water all over the houseThe bowl holds a lot of water and only needs to be changed ever 2-3 of daysIt's easy to clean, stainless steel and heavy duty plastic topFeels solid and good qualitySoap and water clean up is easyCons:The cons are minimal but I'll mention them. The plug that is used to create the water pressure when refilling the bowl is also good quality, but hard to get a hold of if you don't have strong fingers, or a good grip. Perhaps there could be a little more to grab hold of. But I still get it to work just fine. FYI, you do not have to push the stopped far into the whole just create a seal when adding the top to a full bowl of water. The only other thing is that my dog slobbers so much and sometimes leave pieces of food in the water bowl that the water usually reaches contamination when there's about 1-2 inches of water left in the bowl. For that reason I feel like sometimes I'm wasting water (but I usually use it to water plants). If your dog is not a massive slobber-er you probably will not have this problem. It's not that big of a deal.I love this thing. It has been a life saver. I'm so glad that I took a chance on this purchase.
