Bought this on a whim, and was deeply pleased with it. Previous mic was a $170 condenser microphone that was extremely sensitive, and it picked up all manner of irritating background noise. Despite being a budget model, this mic instantly cut through both computer and box fans with significantly clearer vocals and less noise. I'd like a little more clarity on the high frequencies, but for what it does, this unit is a beast. Looking forward to buying an upper level Shure mic next time.

One thing I noticed about this Shure SM48-LC is that it is very directional... Meaning you're not going to be singing through the side of the windscreen. It's got to be placed so the microphone is picking up signals through the very end. This is a good feature as it cuts out a lot of the other noises that you may experience on stage or while practicing in your garage. I think it might work nicely as an instrument microphone such as augmenting an acoustic guitar, although I haven't tried that yet. Shure is a world renowned manufacturer of sound equipment and this particular model lives up to its name. The price is very reasonable and I recommend this microphone to anyone.

Great mics to use for practice and as spares for live performance. They are cheap but not built cheap. If you want top quality you may want to upgrade to the sm58 but for the price they are solid mics and get the job done. Not recommended for recording.

The Shure SM48 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone is a durable, budget-friendly microphone that performs well for live performances, speeches, and basic vocal recordings. While it lacks some of the high-end features of more expensive models, its build quality, clarity, and reliability make it a great choice for those on a budget.

Whether you are a motivational speaker, have a podcast or are the lead singer in a rock band. This could be your microphone! Produces a GREAT sound for a disrespectfully small amount of money. Don’t know how they do it but shove your money in their hand and take off running!Great product at a good price point. One of the last true values out there. It’s a wired mic, that’s fine.. Don’t be prissy about it. Wireless is not a necessity for “all” people. Every mic I ever saw growing up was wired. If it was good enough for Bruce Springsteen and Martin Luther King, it’s good enough for you doing much less important things. Those of you who are audio engineers and can tell the ever so slight difference between mics and small incremental adjustments in sound levels. Then get the $750 mic that you’ve been looking at.For people that only have a small budget and aren’t recording or want it to be wireless or to do things with sound regular people don’t even know how to do. This is more than sufficient.I use mine with a broadcast speaker to share the Gospel of Christ, speaking and for singers to sing and the sound is warm and beautiful. Sounds like it cost 10x more than it did.

I have not heard the difference in sound even side by side with SM58 ...the only difference is the you have to put a little more gain.

At this price point I wasn't expecting much, but the build quality is great and the sound quite decent. If you have a singer in your band who likes to swing the mic around on its cable or a speaker who does the "mic drop" (that is so passe now), this is the mic for you. I don't know that audiences will hear the difference through a PA system, and if you're recording instruments I would use a completely different type of mic anyway such as a ribbon or condenser mic depending on the instrument. What I will say, is the level is really low, so you should probably get a pre-amp. That kind of defeats the low price point, but you can use pre-amps for different mics. If I were gigging consistently, I'd outfit the band with these mics for vocals since it wouldn't be such a big deal if they were stolen or broken through mistreatment.

Simply put: No other microphone does so much, can handle anything you throw at it, is as versatile and affordable —especially is this price range (even up too $100)— comes close to this iconic microphone except it’s big brother the legendary and classic SM58Honestly I can’t think of a better value for the amazing sound quality and build. This microphone is simply perfect. It has a legacy that it lives up too, provides an amazing audio experience. It’s perfect for live music, performance, studio sessions, gigs, conferences, etc.Wherever whenever you need it, it is ready and will be there to work. You can not go wrong here. It’s an essential and fundamental tool in my music gear toolbox and it’s my primary goto for anything i need.

I have four Shure microphonesSM-48 (this cardioid model being reviewed)SM-58 (the gold standard cardioid)SM-58S (the gold standard cardioid with a sliding on/off switch)BETA 58A (supercardioid)If I had known, I wouldn't have bought this microphone, it isn't right for my needs but based on the listing and all the great detail it sure sounded like it would the be the right mic for me.I run a karaoke night and most of the regular female singers don't have a lot of power. They can't use this microphone because it needs too much gain - feedback town - unless I just drop the karaoke music low enough to hear these singers.I get the best results with the BETA 58A. It is a little sensitive to frequencies to its rear side compared to the SM-58, but unless someone is cupping the mic there is no issue. It sounds absolutely gorgeous, but it costs the same as an SM-58 + an SM-48.I would say if price is an issue and you're a screamer or you're singing some backup vocals: go for this one, especially if you gig. It's built well. It can take a beating. If price is somewhat of an issue but the sound matters more get an SM-58. Get the one with the switch only if you need the switch. I use the switch at my table to make quick announcements and not worry about fading or feedback. But the switches do eventually go bad so I never use the switched mics for the singers.I recommend this assuming it's a good fit for your needs. If you want to be extra: get the BETA 58A.
