It clips into the hinge receptacle of the camera but is a bit loose-not quite are tightly as the original equipment. It also clips into the grip pocket for storage when using the grip. I prefer the Nikon OEM door but unfortunately lost it in tall muddy grass one time when mounting the grip.

I wrote a similar review earlier since I purchased this door in addition to a seemingly identical door from another manufacturer. Both third-party doors look identical to me on close examination, so essentially reposting this. In summary, I do recommend this door and/or any door that looks identical (hint: the doors with clearly identical product photos will likely be the same, so go for the best deal!)Looking for a backup door to fit the Z6 III, I could not find it on Nikon's parts website. They only include part numbers and ambiguous names like "battery cap unit" with no description or mention of camera compatibility. Since the Z6III is new, I thought this part may not be available yet. So, I wrote Nikon support. Not hearing back from them, I took a chance on this door as it looked exactly like my OEM door in the pictures. While waiting for this door to arrive, Nikon wrote back to me: "BATTERY CAP UNIT - Z 8, Z 7, Z 7II, Z 6, Z 6II, Z6III, and Z 5 - ALL TAKE THIS BATTERY CAP UNIT" - which is apparently part number 12959-AOM96H for $23 from their site. When this door arrived, I tried it on right away and it fit perfectly. And now comparing visually this door side by side with the OEM door, the main difference is that this door is not textured and instead a smooth matte black. The screws are smaller and without a divot. The engraved battery illustration is less pronounced. The price for this part is significantly better. In my attached photos, the OEM part is on the left while this door is on the right. Now that I know more, would I get the OEM part again? Yes, if my OEM door were damaged or lost, I would replace for peace of mind, as well as any time I need to ship the camera back to Nikon for service, or any type of resale. But since this part works and looks great, I am just going to use this part and put the OEM door in my drawer for safe keeping. I highly recommend!!
