I have used this center punch for many months (this is my second purchase). The adjustable internal spring force is perfect for most applications, ranging from soft to hard woods, and from copper to hardened stainless steel. I twist/adjust the force low at first and slowly adjust the force upwards in one or two punches, until the force is just right for the material being center punched. After using on hard steel for a while, the center pin needs a quick sharpening with a file, to bring it back to a sharp point. This is one of those tools, which is a little costly at purchase, but you buy it once, it feels 'right' in your hand, and you'll use it forever.

I think with a pen tube, compression spring from a McDonald’s toy, and the needle from a disposable syringe I could create an automatic center punch that is comparable in performance.

I've used it a few dozen times since I got it and it operates consistently and puts the indent where iI want it on thin and thick steels

I like that you can adjust the spring tension in order to control the indention depth for drill bit guidance.

Not sure if this is a knock-off, but it does not punch, as a punch should. It makes a mark the size of a needle which isn't very useful

Cranked the tension up to stake castle nuts. Takes a bit of practice, but it’s a bit faster than a punch and hammer.

Very good centre punch. Nice grip/hand protection? Strong punch use it everyday on metals. Highly recommended.Update March 5 2022Over 4 years of everyday use now on stainless steel and all sorts of metals. Excellent. Way way better that the starett it replaced.
