Two hinges on my EMCO Andersen storm door broke. In reality, it was the springs inside two hinges that wore out. After some online research, I discovered that Andersen does not sell replacement spring hinges with pins; they will sell you the entire hinge frame, which runs $90 for the particular storm door I have. Even if I wanted to spend that much money, I doubt I have the skills necessary to replace it.This kit is about the only available alternative for a three-inch storm door spring hinge pin replacement. A few retailers have it, but I ordered from Amazon because it was the most convenient option for me. Similar to other reviewers, the provided plastic pins were too big for my door's hinges, so I reused the metal pins that came with the door. I also had to make two other modifications in order for these to work. First, the provided bushings are thicker than the originals that came with the door, so I used one new bushing and one old bushing on each hinge in order to get the pins to fit. Second, the springs were slightly too long, so I cut a couple coils from each spring. The one other tip I can give, that I read somewhere else before trying it, is that I used a putty knife to push the pins down in order to get them and the hinges back in place. The door now seems to be working normally, and only time will tell how long the new hinge pins will last. But I am glad this kit worked (with modifications).

The original Andersen EMCO storm door top hinge’s bottom plastic bushing or bearing sleeve was completely wore out and disappeared after 10 years daily usage. Therefore, the hinge spring & pins cannot function. Also, missing the bushing, the door hinge lower down 1/8 inch on hinge side, the handle & lock side lower down more than 1/4 inch, therefore, the door cannot close properly. This set comes white bushing which fits perfectly in the door frame. Replace the broken spring, use the original metal pins, and use a little hammer to push bushing into the door frame. Then, the storm door works again like new again.

I installed these spring hinges and the part circled in red immediately broke when the part circled in yellow was released to secure the door hinge. While the door is working right now, it is only a matter of time (and it won't be long) until the spring pushes through the broken part and I'm right back where I started. Very frustrating.

Purchased 2 sets to repair a Anderson 4 hinge storm door with 3" hinges. To repair this door you need to use the original steel pins from your door. The nylon pins in the kit are too large and the springs too long. Just use the bushings with the original pins and cut the springs shorter. Works perfectly. Alternative would be to drill the hinge holes larger or sand down the nylon pins. My way was much easier. Perfect repair.

These allowed me to refurbish an old screen door at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Great value for money.

For most, the outer bushings are what wear out and cause failure. For me, that bushings failure also caused the inner spring to fail. As others have mentioned, the inner plugs that come with this kit are too wide to fit into the EMCO hinge. If you still have the original, metal, inner plugs - just reuse them. I cleaned mine off with a wire brush and they fit snuggly into the new spring. The outer bushings fit into the EMCO hinge just fine and everything goes back together relatively easily. The new spring does seem to be slightly longer than the old one, but I managed to get everything to compress enough during the install. It's probably wise to give the hinge a quick cleanup and coat of paint while you're in there -- remove all rust and maybe even add some lubricant to the hinge components.

I just used the bushings like another user stated. I didn’t even try the pins and the springs will fit my 15 year old EMCO door. I used only 1 though as the original springs looked fine

First - One kit includes enough pieces for 3 hinges. Not stated in ad.The brass bushings on my 50 yr old doors have worn out. The bushings in this kit had the right outside diameter to fit the frame but I needed to drill out the inside hole sightly to enlarge to accept my door pins. Easily done. Super happy I have a non creaking door. 5 stars
