What is LH surge?

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is one of the hormones produced by the pituitary gland. It is secreted at very low levels throughout your menstrual cycle. Once a developing egg follicle reaches a certain size, Luteinizing Hormone secretion surges to high levels. This hormone surge is what triggers ovulation about 24 to 48 hours later.

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovary. It signals the beginning of your fertile period.

My daughter & her husband went through a long fertility journey years ago that finally resulted in my granddaughter 3 years ago :) -- and now my son and his wife are experiencing the beginning of their journey with doctors and meds etc., so I've been shopping for a variety of testing kits from various manufacturers to help them. This kit has only 10 strips, and with my DIL's sporadic issues, it *might* be enough for one cycle. It includes the digital reader that's specific to this brand of strips, and it does not include any pee cups. While the directions state you can hold it under a urine stream, I believe it's more sanitary and just as effective to use a cup and dip it instead. At about $17 when I ordered this kit, I'm not sure at this point how good a value it actually is.Before I ordered these, I did some digging into this company's reviews by clicking on their store site from the amazon page, and the reviews were mixed about the effectiveness of some tests. Since my DIL is seeing a doctor regularly, she can always follow up there or use another brand of test if she's not sure. I did feel the need to mention the mixed reviews here, since this can already be a roller-coaster ride without one more speed bump.I'm giving this a very hopeful 4 stars. I'll come back to update if there are any obvious issues or false/inconsistent results in the process.

The device itself I would give 5 stars. I have another ovulation kit and it doesn't have the ovulation and peak ovulation detection. There is no urine cup included so you have to figure that out for yourself. The strip seems longer than normal so make sure to listen to the 10-15seconds rule. I timed it and it does tell you your result within 5 min exactly. The main draw back is that there are only 10 test strips. That might last only one ovulation period if you are trying to get pregnant. If you're just trying to figure out your cycle then these could be enough. The strips contain thick plastic on them so they are not eco friendly. I like plugging it into the pen, but then you can't see that the control line was successful. You might want to set a timer for 5 min. If it goes over that, it might not have absorbed enough urine.

The LH tests that go into this are the same as the strip tests you can buy in bulk for cheaper- but this kit comes with a digital reader to interpret the results for you.The strips work accurately (as compared to a different test that i known is accurate) and the reader also works well. It beeps when it is done- so you dont have to set a timer on your phone.Personally i think it is easy enough to just read LH test strips directly- so the extra cost for the digital reader doesn’t seem worth it to me. However if you get anxious about whether you are interpreting the lines on the test correctly, the digital reader will take away any guess work- so it is simpler to use. This digital reader is also much cheaper than the name brand version, so for a digital reader it’s a good price. But for the same cost you can get way more than 10 tests if you dont care about the digital reader. You can also see the direct results on the strip when you take it out of the reader- to verify the results and/or to train your eye on a negative vs rising vs positive result.

I am a fan of this test kit for sure. I appreciate that it has a test reader that can interpret the results for me so i'm not having to go crosseyed deciding if this line is darker or lighter than the last one or the control one or by how much or any of that. I am trying to have a baby, and knowing when I am ovulating is crucial, and this OPK set takes all the guesswork out of it. It is super easy to use, and the hardest part is just waiting for the result. :) It doesn't take that long honestly, but when you're anxious, sitting and waiting for even 30 seconds seems like a lot, lol, so 5 minutes is a very long time it seems, but it really isn't, and this is typical wait time for these tests. I'm just impatient, haha. The test itself is very easy to read and understand, and this will make my ttc journey so much easier now that I have this. It is also a great value. Digital tests can be a bit pricy, but this set is quite affordable.

These are really easy to use, however I do not think they are fully accurate. When I have a positive (very positive) ovulation test trip, and want to double check with these, they always pop up negative. They are also pricey for possibly not being accurate.

This is easy to read and appears to be accurate based on app tracking. I like how there are multiple tests in this bag. No complaints from me. You use it like any of these type of tests so how to use these are pretty standard.

These are great for on the go because I can safely put them in my bag and they come with the lid. They’re also digital, so it takes a guess work out of deciding if the control line was darker than the test line. They dry and give the result quickly. The set I got contained seven digital ovulation tests. I was able to compare them with my Premom strips and the results were accurate.

It's relatively easy to use. I don't know how accurate it is... I took two tests on the days suggested by my Natural Cycles app (app that tracks basal body temp to estimate ovulation) and both were negative for ovulation. Could be that I just had a weird cycle, but cycles are VERY regular so I'm not sure. I'll take more tests next cycle to see if I get any different results.
