Water pump went out 80 miles from home, thanks to AAA got it towed to my yard, where it waited for tender ministrations of my mechanic for a month or two . We weren;t optimistic but now the 256k miles Subie runs like a top and even the check engine light went out!

I think Gates is a reliable brand. It really depends on installation too. So far so good.

this pump had a leak from initial installation through mechanical seal telltale eventually became steady stream and needed to be replaced 700KM.

I originally posted a negative review regarding the water pump. Well I'm back to correct my rating. The water pump is fine. I ended up replacing it when actually I had a bad head gasket which was pressurizing my cooling system. When I pulled the water pump, it was fine. It was even a better quality pump then the new one I had on hand to install. All good and the kit worked as expected.

I have a 2004 Forester. I replace my old timing belt with this Gates one Saturday 6/20/2015 every thing fit as it should and quality looked good. Make sure you have torque wrenches and a friend. Total time about 6 hours total. Order a 21200AA072 Thermostat with this kit.It helps if you have sprocket wrenches for the cam gear and crank shaft pulley. I had to take off the cam gear to get the water pump on.Order a 21200AA072 Thermostat with this kit.

Due to the inflated cost of the components here in Australia from Subaru I started searching for a cost effective alternative. This kit from Amazon Approx $230.00 delivered vs Approx $750.00 including water pump from Subaru. Delivered to me door in 2 weeks.Additional parts required - Subaru water pump gasket (metal ) from Subaru $3.00 & end cap for additional water pump outlet $2.00.Replaced timing belt assembly at 200,000 km. I also replaced the head gaskets which were leaking ( also purchased from Amazon Excellent Felpro multi layer steel MLS)Everything fit perfectly and is a very high quality.I did this job myself and saved a small fortune that was quoted by Subaru
