This is a solid monitor with a very bright and sharp screen. Really love the Cinenorm os as it's the main reason I took a chance with this monitor over a Smallhd. I hope certain features will be improved in future updates such as pinch to zoom because it's quite glitchy right now. The screen capture/overlay system feels slow and not as intuitive compared to competition too. My biggest problem with this monitor is when underexposing and shooting a grey/more neutral surface, you can see pretty severe color banding on the screen. This is quite distracting and hard to judge the image properly. The color banding persists even in black and white mode. I have reached out to Portkeys about this issue, and while they have really great customer service, this seems like a hardware problem that cannot be fixed, so hopefully the 5th version will have better quality panels.

After just a couple of years of use, this monitor stopped working. It seems that the issue is a common one related to the cable, based on what I’ve read in other reviews. It’s especially frustrating to have it fail just days before an important shoot.

This monitor is ounce for ounce punching way above its weight for monitors in its price class. I am using the BM5 IV on my Canon R6 Mk2 for video work. The daylight viewable screen is a massive help when framing a subject and the camera controls saves a lot of time when setting up the camera. The monitor is lightweight, robust and made of high quality and durable materials. The new CINENORM user interface is simple and intuitive with all the tools and signal interfaces which are superior to what that can be expected from a monitor in its price class. Portkeys product support is great and I have done a firmware update with no hassles at all. This monitor will serve noobs like myself and professionals all alike as it will get you going quickly with its simple user interface but yet has a massive array of professional capabilities to streamline workflows and the quality of video productions.

I bought this over an atomos ninja because i wanted to be able to control the camera from the monitor and not have to rely on the lcd. Unfortunately the monitor does not stay connected for longer than a few seconds to the FX3. While the monitor itself is good without that one feature it is nowhere near worth the price and wish i had have bought a ninha instead. It is on the latest firmware. If you like this monitor and wamt to ise it for the FX3 get the non wireless version as its ober £100 cheaper.EditAfter contacting portkeyes they sent me a firmware upgrade that enables the FX3 and FX30 to work wirelessly. The monitor now is absolutely worth it as I can just use the monitor after initial setup (have to reestablish connection once cam/monitor is tuned off) and put away LCD.Would be 5 stars but because I have to contact portkeyes to get it working means I can't. Overall really good monitor with great screen and great feature set.

Fabulous small monitor for field and studio work. I use it for news live shots and Cine style interviews.

If you want to actually see your monitor outside, buy this monitor. I’m using it with the Panasonic S5 tethered via USB control and hdmi. The image looks good. One of the few monitors that can also display a full waveform view when wanted. All of the tools on this monitor work well and certainly feels professional. Especially like the focus assist which focus peaking works well. The only extra would be to have an HDMI out, but SDI out is certainly a plus. UPDATE: 1-19-2025My first monitor came in DOA. It would not power on. The replacement monitor lasted about 1.5 years and would not power on. These monitors are plagued with a power supply issue! I’ve read and heard endless stories of these monitors failing. Support mentioned it will need to be sent to China for repair and the cost could be high as $500. That’s what I paid new for the BM5III. It doesn’t matter how good a monitor is, if it doesn’t work!

Ordered this monitor after seeing a friend using it while I was using a Atomos Ninja V. This monitor is so much crispier and just has a much better sharper image. It’s a lot easier to get focus with this monitor and it’s much better for outdoor use during the day. However, I prefer the user interface in the atomos monitors.

I was torn between this or the Atamos V.. glad I went with this for many reasons. But. personally the Bluetooth connection is amazing. You can control the entire camera via the screen. The brightness of the monitor is next level. No matter how sunny it the screen is still very visible and easy to read.
