Bought and installed last January for our now 140 pound St Bernard he has never gotten out of it and only got bit by it one time and won’t go near any more. We have a highway way out front and this product has certainly done its duty. I do unplug it when there’s a storm other than that nothing. Our dog is an indoor dog but likes to play out when it’s cool now with no worries. My husband installed it with no problems and trained our dog in a few days. We have a large area fenced it’s well worth it. I ordered extra collar just in case needed but haven’t had to use it. Works for us well he knows when he’s getting to close and backs off immediately. Thanks Pet Safe !

We have 4 dogs. 1 Great Pyrenees, 1 Maremma, 1 Cane Corso and 1 Mini Aussie. The Maremma would climb over our 5FT fence and leave the property (5 Acres) every day. We got a Halo Collar for her but it was not strong enough and since we live rural, the GPS fence would not always work. So I spent more money to try to keep the Maremma and Great Pyrenees on the property. It has been 2 months and the Maremma has left only 3 times. The last time she was afraid to come back in. That’ll teach her. The Great Pyrenees does not even come close to the fence anymore and she used to run out the gate when anybody would drive in. It is the best deterrent so far and I am happy. Also, I am still on my first set of batteries. The Halo had to be recharged after 10 hours.

My husky was always digging holes and escaping our yard, since buying this she has yet to escape and doesn't even go close to the perimeters set, as soon as she hears the beep she runs the other way. We have an irregular shaped yard so setting the parameter was a bit tricky but otherwise it was fine. We didn't bury the line we just stapled the wire to the bottom of our fence to save some labor. 100% satisfied

PLEASE READ THIS, AND CONSIDER THE YARD MAX NOT ANY OTHER FENCE SYSTEM BY PETSAFE. So the way this works, is when the collar is close enough to the border range , it will beep about 4 times and THEN shock. The hope is that the beeping will cause the dog to turn back into their property before getting shocked. The problem is that any dog of any size is PLENTY fast enough to get across the MAX width setting border, before the beeps turn into a shock, and then they're either STUCK OUTSIDE THE BORDER, or FREE TO ROAM in and out of the border, if they are smart enough to figure out to cross it rather quickly. When I called and told PetSafe how bad this huge investment of time and money failed me, they just told me they couldn't refund me any bit, and offered 10% off a 500$ purchase of the YardMax system with two collars. I found out that many people had this same problem with their systems, which is why the YardMax system was designed so that it WON'T STOP the shocking and beeping until the collar COMES BACK inside the property. A lot of good that does me, since I can't afford it at the time being. I had just assumed that the collar I bought would keep shocking or beeping if they were outside of the boundary, but without this one feature, the system is massively flawed and puts your pet's lives AT RISK!!! SKIP THIS AND BUY THE YARD MAX! Anways, for anyone interested in my personal experience with the Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence system; I had trained both my beautiful girls way ABOVE AND BEYOND the recommended training, and after rigorous testing of the dogs, I felt that they wouldn't ever think about crossing it and would be kept safe from the nearby busy road and public hunting areas. That was until a few months later, when one of my 2 dogs ran over the line after a squirrel, and couldn't get back into the yard. Her animal instincts took over and in that single brief moment she disregarded the months of training and staying inside the property. Unfortunately, that one time was all that it took to ruin all of her progress. From then on, whenever she wanted to cross that line bad enough, she just ran over it. She learned that she could get across it without getting the shock, so she wasn't afraid. She'd started by laying outside the property whining until someone would come take her collar off and walk her back across, but after a few times of this, she would just stop right before the boundary going in either direction and do a fast dash to get across with only 1 of the 4 beeps happening, and never getting shocked. After realizing her strategy, trying turning the fence width up to it's maximum and the collar shock strength up to it's maximum, and trying countless more hours of training, it was all futile, she being a very intelligent and independent breed had figured out this thing's major flaw. We tried everything we could, you name it, but then one time she got out and chased a public hunter's dog in between his legs and was barking at it, and the hunter was threatening to shoot her out of fear for his smaller dog. That was too close to a terrible situation, and she had been getting closer and closer to the busy high-speed road on her escapes to boot, so sadly she's now living life miserably tied up like before I bought the PetSafe system. My 2nd dog, who was just a puppy during the time of getting the fence so had been trained at a nice young moldable age, seemed to be too scared to even go near the beep, and continued with the Fence working properly for her, roaming the property freely while her older sister stayed tied up. As the months passed by, she started getting closer to the border all around the property, creating a beep and then jumping back, as if to test how far she could go. I thought this was good for her to realize her maximum range potential, but then if a squirrel would run through the yard, she would go after it a little bit past the border and then turn around, getting 2-3 of the 4 beeps from the collar, and getting back inside before the shock. Then my worst nightmare became a reality a few weeks ago, she chased a critter completely outside the boundary line to where the beeping stopped..... Just like her sister, she was trapped outside, and couldn't get back because of the beeping at the border. And yep, just like her sister, that one time was all that it took, she started getting trapped outside the fence and next thing you know she's just willy-nilly running back and forth across the border like it wasn't even there, like she wasn't afraid of it for a whole year. The beeping never turned to a shock, and she had become unafraid of the noise. It's important to know before purchasing this product that there is NO OPTION to turn the collar to instantly shock once they hit the border, or make it beep only 1 or 2 times and shock FASTER. So yea... Now I have two big beautiful dogs who want to roam free tied up for their safety, and about a thousand dollars (I bought the best wire I could, and needed a lot, on top of the system and two collars and borrowing equipment to install) and countless hard working hours in burying the wire and training the dogs completely wasted. I'll just have to wait until I can afford the YardMax system and collars, and I guess I'll throw away my Stubborn Dog system and collars since they're useless as far as I can tell. Even if someone I knew only let their dogs outside to potty, there's no way I would risk this massively flawed system, and risk that dog losing it's life.

This is the rare product that is well designed, well built, and well documented. The installation instructions were excellent (in contrast to almost everything you buy these days). And, honestly, they need to be, because this is an electronic system that will only work right if it's installed right. If you take your time and read and follow the instructions carefully, you will end up with a system that works great.I needed to create a border around roughly 3 acres. In addition to this controller, I bought 500- and 1000-foot 16 gauge PetSafe wires (the 1000-ft. roll is not available from Amazon), and a second PetSafe receiver collar. My plan was to just lay the wire down on the ground, because digging a 1500-foot trench is a lot of work! Well, the first night two spots were chewed on through the insulation, and the wire had been moved in another spot. So we dug a very shallow trench and buried it. The whole project took a weekend.I was a little worried that twisting the wires together as a means of neutralizing the signal wouldn't work, but it worked perfectly; the collar will not go off even an inch away from the twisted pair. This gives you a good way to get from the controller (mounted in a dry location with power) to the property line. They suggest a trick where you use a drill to twist the two wires together, and that worked well too.The only way that I deviated from the instructions was in soldering and heat-shrink-insulating connections between wires. They do provide a solderless way to do it, but I'm more confident in my approach.Does it work? Yes! My two dogs wandered away at least daily before, and not once since. Their collars are only set to Level 2 (the mildest shock).I am not affiliated in any way with PetSafe, except that now I'm a fan.[2022-06-29 Update] The fence is still working beautifully after more than a year. I absolutely would buy it again, and my only regret is that I didn't install it sooner. My dogs never get shocked; a mere beep is enough for them to back off. Even when someone forgets to put on their collars, they are now trained and so they don't try to escape. It's great!

It was a lot more work than I expected to set it up but it was straightforward, it works well and my dog is so happy to be free again
