Make your own applicator depending on the job. Works as expected, easy to apply, dries quickly, and just throw away applicator because it's just a piece of stiff cardboard with tape on it. Finished product looks good and feels very tough.

Note that I tend to leave neutral to positive comments on the products I purchase because I tend to trust the feedback mechanism here. Unfortunately, this product had no real feedback and my want for it was based on an RV forum who has a member that recommended this product over silicone to seal Windows and doors from the weather.I'm building a tiny camper and from scratch so the method is new to me but I'm not new to building. As such I opted to use butyl tape to seal the openings and use this to form a bead of extra insurance around my openings to hold water at bay.I placed this product in a nice thin bead around the entire door frames of my twin door tiny camper and allowed it to set the recommended 2 hours before messing with it. The instructions in the card simply state "clean up with lacquer thinner but do not allow thinner to stay on paint." This statement would infer that it is compatible with paint and that mild clean up precautions would need to be observed. At the 2 hour mark I came out to see this horror story. The product had (theory based on my paint supplier looking through my pictures) leeched the solvents in it into my clear coat, lifting it and the base coat under it just like some aircraft stripper would! I nearly cried. I'd painted this 2 weeks previously, cut and buffed the paint to get rid of 90% of the orange peel in the clear as this camper is a gift to my girlfriend, hence the matching silver to her vehicle for paint. The paint was cured and took the abuse of sanding and polishing it without any issue. This product ruined it!I immediately called permatex to talk to customer service about the issue. They deferred to technical assistance and someone named Curtis called me. I explained the issues and he just sighed and said "that's an unfortunate event" and basically blew me off.Naturally I'm now irate. A multi million dollar company sells a product that infers it is paint compatible and being used as it was intended REMEMBER SEALANT and then tells me I'm wrong. In fact when I requested a refund for the product and suggested that they reimburse me for the paint ($200) to fix this, he laughed and said that I didn't do my due diligence and that I should have called them with the paint formula and asked them about the compatibility of it.Yes, you're reading that correct. Permatex technical assistance informed me that I should essentially be a chemical engineer, determine the make up of automotive paint, call them and discuss the compatibility of the paint with their product. No I disagree. I think that they should, like many other companies, list the uses and warnings of their product more I depth. I can find it on silicone. I can find it on epoxy. Heck I can find it on cleaning supplies at home. But prematex thinks it's going to get a pass because they don't feel the need to specify uses, in fact the tech Curtis actually stated verbatim "No, it's absolutely compatible with paint, but you didn't call us to discuss it with us and tell us what your paint formulation is." Then told me "You're the only one in 8 years to have this problem." All the while he agrees with the paint store on what happened.Well Permatex, I asked you to help me make it right... No time no nothing just cover the $200 in paint I'm out because your product leeches into paint and lifts it apparently at random... You refused. Now I'll make sure I cost you hundreds of times that in lost sales. I'll never buy another product from you again. I'll do my best to expose your terrible customer service and business practices. I'll never stop burning down your bridges. Never.Amazon, amazing... Refunded me 30 bucks for a garbage product that all they did was ship to me. Prematex.... Stuff it!ADDENDUM: Permatex contacted me and did in fact "make it right" with me. Their claims department was professional and courteous. They agreed that the packaging should be marked differently and that the sealant did contain chemicals that could damage automotive paint. I'm no longer upset with Permatex but I'll leave this up so everyone knows that this is the wrong product for this application.

I used this for my acura rear window since the old weather sealant/strip was rotting really and and it worked amazing! Takes some time to set depending on the weather as a factor. Since its the winter and cold by me, it dried much quicker than it regularly does. Seals very well, the only thing that's a pain is trying to make it look good when applying it, it's a little rough to do and you may need something to flaten the liquid. Of your are like me and just squished the tube onto the surface, then you should be fine. This product gets the job done right!

I used this to seal a car trunk that had water running the door gasket and into the ribs that hold the gasket to the metal. That resulted in the water coming out at the lowest point into the trunk. It is runny so make sure you tape off or cover things it could drip on... it also required me to be fast and operate in sections.... NO LEAKS now though. It dries a hard dense rubber so you won't be pulling it off and putting it on.... it is not a flexible gasket feel.I had some left over... so...1) I did glue a sole back onto some sneakers... put it in the clamp over night to dry and it has been great for weeks.2) It says it is electrical compliant.. I had a car USB charger I bought on Amazon that fell apart in our hands before we ever used it. The plastic clips that held it to the metal plate broke... I used this rubber to glue the two together... knowing it should not create short. It worked Great glueing the plastic to the metal.Shelf life... you can see in my photo that I had some dry chunks after about 3 weeks of post use sitting. It skims over quickly so you want to get your bond before that happens.

If you are mechanically inclined and don't keep a tube of Permatex's Rubber Sealant handy you have been missing something. I restore antique motorcycles and it would take more space than I have to list every application I have found for this product from making odd rubber gaskets to insulating electrical connectors to repairing rubber joints. Like most products it has its small faults and limits. Once you open the tube it will start drying out and become useless in a month or so no matter how tightly you try to reseal it. Occasionaly the dried sealant under the cap makes it difficult or even impossible once opened to remove the screw-on cap without tearing the tube open. Application has to be immediate since the solvents in the rubber evaporate quickly and adhesion suffers. I found several new tubes to be improperly mixed inside when I opened them and a clear plastic goo ran out but this has only happened once. In spite of these nuisances this rubber sealant is a wonder product for almost anything and I am never without several tubes in my shop.
