I’ve owned several fishing kayaks, but this is my first sit-in. The standard seemed to be a SOT was the way to go for fishing, because they’re easier to enter if you capsize, more stable, etc, etc.... I only fish calm lakes and slow moving rivers in my area and have never capsized. Also, my SOT was heavy, cumbersome and lacked practical storage. I decided to try this sit-in after seeing it at a sporting goods store. I liked the molded handles, the “workstation” in front, and the cavernous storage inside. Unlike another brands, the storage area extends all the way from bow to stern inside, it’s not blocked by the seating area. You could pack a day trip in it with ease. I also liked the Ram mount capability. Although the accessories are expensive, I ponied up for the ball mount and rod holder and it’s outstanding. I grew weary of drilling holes and making mods in my previous kayaks, most were unnecessary. Simple is good. As far as performance, let’s keep it real. It’s a 9.5’ kayak, it’s not going to be a speed demon. It’s got a channel-type design that increases stability in lieu of speed. It also has a squared-off stern which I like, because I transport it in my truck bed and it fits flush against the rear. As far as tracking, it’s so-so. The aforementioned features reduce its tracking ability somewhat. When you paddle, you can see the bow drift left to right slightly with each stroke instead of straight as an arrow. But again, let’s get real. This is a fishing kayak designed for those who realize there’s give and take when it comes to form and function. When I fish it’s for leisure not for time trials and I found the speed at which it moves to be more than adequate. As far as ease of use, it’s lightweight and easily carried down to the bank with all your gear packed inside. In fact, that’s how I have it stored. Paddles, two rods, tackle, and PFD all inside and hanging by straps against garage wall. When I head out, I know I’m not forgetting anything(which I’ve done before-no paddle). Shipping was good, it arrived wrapped in plastic with cardboard at bow and stern. I did notice a few scuffs, but nothing that would affect performance and besides nothings perfect. Bottom line, I’m enjoying the kayak and would recommend to anyone who is realistic about what they need to fish with.

Just by tying it up in the roof rack cross bars and driving 20 miles did a dent (oil canning) on the hull.

It handles well on the water. I have a Thule kayak rack for my car and the kayak sits well on it. It's a little heavy, but I can still handle it by myself. (I'm 69). It's been a pleasure, paddling up and down the lake. Good exercise and relaxing.

I have been kayaking for 20 years and love perception yaks. Bought this one at Academy. Love the design and thought it would be as nice as my other perception yaks.It is very roomy...nice seat...lots of neat little spots to put stuff in...great when you have fishing gear. Very very very stable. That is what cause a major YUCK about this yak.It is so difficult to paddle this yak. My other perception yaks cut the water so smooth that you can paddle miles before you know it. This one you notice 20 yards off shore. You just can't get anywhere. All my yak friends with me thought it was funny that I couldn't keep up. When I got home I flipped it over and noticed it is completely FLAT about 2 feet back from the bow. It's like trying to paddle a soaked sponge tied to a brick! If you want to lose weight or build up your arms...this is your yak! If you want to stand up in the middle of the lake and not flip...this is your yak! Pray no winds come up cause you will never get off the water fast enough.Sorry perception...I wish I had my money back.

Very steady in the lake. Great for beginners and move quickly in the lake. Steady even with my 3 year old granddaughter sitting in front of me.
