You have to figure it out. The ones like this I have seen, you put your paper in the guide and cut it. With this one, you lay the device on your paper and cut it. It's not horrible or anything but it means you are running a cutting wheel on whatever the surface is below the paper. You'll want to be careful where you use this. Like don't cut paper on your prized dining room table. Another thing I don't get is the side opposite the cutting side has a ruler. I guess it's just a ruler and has no functional tie to the paper cutter. Maybe I'm not understanding it. So, it does cut paper but I think there are better options out there.

There is a video in product description I suggest buyers watch to know what they are getting. Be aware this paper cutter requires you to own one or more cutting mats or something similarly firm but softer (cardboard?). This allows you to cut materials you otherwise could not with a regular paper cutter with the plastic back. This type of tool is useful for those that journal or scrapbook since it allows you to cut a page in hardbound journal easily as long as put something under to protect page underneath as well as cut shapes out of decorative paper. My photo shows my small cutting mats, but I have a large one as well for scrapbook paper. Easy to get the attachments on and off. You must hold paper firmly with fingers on ruler side, then push down on cutting wheel as you slide it. A regular paper cutter you dont have to push or put pressure down, but you do with this type. Very sharp, works great, I'll get more cutting wheel attachments. For the person who reviewed trying to use a glass cutting board, I wouldnt suggest something hard like that or it will destroy the cutter, slide and tear the paper, etc.
