Dropped it and it fell apart. Still managed to remove the valve springs.

This works well for small block gm heads but I doubt it would work well for anything with an overhead cam. It's best suited for old style engines. If you plan on using this to replace leaking valve seals, it can be done, but you'll need to keep the valves in place using the "rope method", or get yourself a compressed air line to your spark plug hole. Either way you'll have to be able to rotate the crank to TDC.Make sure the valve spring compressor is aligned to the valve spring! You don't want those springs going on a sudden excursion.

Only buy this tool if you need to remove the valve spring with the cylinder head on the engine. For example, your valve spring is broken or weak, or you need to change the valve seal under it. If your head is off the engine just buy something else. The compressor needs space around the valve spring to hook on it. And since there's many different springs a universal spring compressor will never be great. It will be crocked most of the time and may slip out of the spring.Hint: In order to prevent the valve to fall down in the cylinder after the valve keepers are removed (it will ruin your day), remove the spark plug and turn over the engine until it begins its compression stroke on this cylinder. Insert a nylon rope in the spark plug hole, then continue to slowly rotate the engine until the rope is compressed by the piston against the valves. This way the valve will not drop in the cylinder. After the repair is done, slightly rotate the engine backward just enough to be able to remove the rope.

This is a great tool to have around the garage. It’s build well and it works perfectly, I got it to help do the valves on my 1968 Beetle with the 1300cc engine. It is a tight fit for boxer engines like that and in most Subarus, but for regular inline or V engines the space won’t be an issue. It’s well worth the cost and I highly recommend this product.

The compression head is a great design, keeps the spring centered, the rest of it was junk. Hard to use, star wheel very uncomfortable to get tight enough and it came off after 3 cylinders. Jaws are hooked too deep and offset too far. I wouldn't recommend.

A little tricky to get caught on the spring, but that may just be the heads I was working on. They got the job done.

The one size fits all valve spring compressor. It grips the spring and runs down the clamp with ease. This is a nicely made tool with quality steel and manufacturing. And for 10 bucks, you just can't beat it. You need to have one of these in your tool box.

The item is a high quality, it made removing the valves from an Chevy based head go very quickly and allowed the machining process to begin. Usage was simple and fairly easy and intuitive, and the overall quality of the parts together made for a decent tool that I'm going to use time and time again.
