  • POLAR VALVE's patented shape memory alloy spring works at 32°F (0°C) to release water without freezing. It protects down to -18°C (0°F). The included rubber strap prevents it from being lost when removed for storage.

  • Yes, POLAR VALVE is designed to be universally compatible with most outdoor faucets. It provides reliable freeze protection and is easy to install. Please check the thread size of your faucet before attaching to ensure it is suitable.

  • POLAR VALVE works best at 58 to 72 psi.

Lower pressures increase the risk of freezing.

Higher pressures may cause leaks or affect operation.

Maintaining the recommended range will ensure optimum performance.

  • Temperature Range Discharged Amount (Measured at 65psi, variations possible due to water pressure.)

    32°F to 23°F: 120ml/min (1.9gal/h)

    23°F to 14°F: 150ml/min (2.38gal/h)

    14°F to 5°F: 180ml/min (2.85gal/h)

    5°F to -4°F: 200ml/min (3.17gal/h)

  • Pour warm water into the drain or place it in a cup for 20 seconds to stop the flow. Also check the water pressure. If it is over 72 psi, the shut-off temperature may be different. For proper function, keep the pressure between 58 and 72 psi.

This is a good solution for us in the south where we have temperatures dip below freezing occasionally in the winter. The idea is that you install this on outdoor faucets and turn them on. If the temps are above freezing it won’t drip but when the temperature drops below freezing. The inner spring contracts and lets the water drip. It does work as it should, but I found an issue with the type of faucet we have that could be a problem.I previously used insulated covers either the cone type or the newer sock type covers for my faucets. The cone types didn’t hold up for long and I found out the hard way that the sock type doesn’t prevent the faucet from freezing so I was looking for an alternative and found these. The problem I ran into with these is that my faucets have a vacuum breaker and back-flow preventer so it naturally lets water drip after you close the faucet to empty the faucet/pipe. It is a good feature to depressurize the pipe during normal use, but with this valve attached and faucet turned on, the water starts dripping from the vacuum breaker continuously which wastes a lot of water if you keep the water turned on the entire winter. So I only turn it on when the temps are predicted to be below freezing. As it turns out this is not a set it and forget it solution as I expected or was used to with the other cover type solutions. This can be challenging if we are out of town when the temps dip or if I accidentally forget to turn off the water when the temps drop. Not really an issue with the valve, but something others might find helpful.

Much more convenient, than having to tweak your spigot, to get the perfect drip. Now I can just leave the valve open and don’t have to worry about it freezing

We had a week of single digits and did not have any problems at all. If you can attach a hose, you can install this device.

Our 2 outdoor faucets have frozen a couple of times in the last few years even with the standard precautions. Bring desperate, I searched for a better solution. Well, this is it! For the past week or so, we have been below freezing day and night with several nights going down in the teens. We checked the faucets in the morning and evening and every time they were dripping like they were supposed to. No freezing faucets. I highly recommend this product if you have problems with your outdoor faucets freezing. They are easy to install.

We're not quite sure what to think about these Outdoor Faucet Freeze Protection units. We installed one on a spigot that is notoriously difficult to shut off and drain, located at the end of a 750-foot run of 3/4-inch pipe feeding our office. Despite our efforts, we've never been able to fully drain this line before a hard freeze. A few weeks ago, we removed the hose and attached the device, but a hard freeze never materialized. However, last night, despite two spray nozzles nearby breaking and spraying water everywhere, the device, which was just a few feet away, seemed dry and unused. The temperature dropped to 24 degrees Fahrenheit, so it surely froze, but no water came out, and it did not burst. We’re not certain if it worked or not. Time will tell if we encounter more severe freezes this year. Being in Florida, such occurrences are pretty irregular, with only a few nights of temperatures staying below freezing for extended periods.
